Crickets in my engine.... - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54553 11 posts Started by dabazied
Well here is the prob with my engine at the moment: sounds like there are crickets chirping in my engine. When I engage the clutch(while idling of course), the noise stops. When I rev up the engine, it doesn't get quieter, the engine just gets louder and the noise happens more rapidly. Likewise, when I turn off the engine they slow down until the engine's completely off. I just got toyota to replace the drive belts about 3 months ago so I know that's not it, unless there is something that I can put on the belts to quiet them. I haven't messed with the timing belt yet. When I get up to the engine, it sounds like it's coming more off the passenger side and sounds almost like it is coming from here: http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s245/da...d/DSCF02642.jpg
But then again it could be the noise bouncing off from something else, but that area is where the noise is more concentrated.
Any ideas?

Also, when I am stopped at a light or something, SOMETIMES, the throttle feels like it is stuck and I have to push hard to get "through the stiff/really hard part" and then it's back to normal. Happens sometimes but sometimes not. Any ideas on this issue as well?

Thanks everyone

Not just a tick tick its more of a higher pitched noise, almost exactly like a group of crickets lol

i used to have that noise coming from my clutch, it was either the release or throwout bearing depending on when it makes the noise... i can't remember which one mine was though... i found out it was the clutch because i would lightly press down on the clutch and the noise would go away and i would take my foot completely off the clutch and it would come back.... it was just a constant chirp chirp chirp

Well I guess that would make sense kind of b/c my clutch is totally gone at the moment. That'll be fixed when I put in a new clutch kit/flywheel. I don't have the money to pay anyone to fix it up front and don't have the tools to do it myself lol.... but when I sell my mustang it'll be smoot sailing lol......

be sure you replace your throwout bearing when you do the clutch, mine makes the same noise and I was told that's what it was. Unfortunately my clutch is pretty new, I guess the guy who did the work cut corners on the previous owner. The bearing is only like twelve bucks. Lame!
yeah mine did it from the day my throughout bearing was installed... the kit was a kit from pepboys... i can't think of the company but it turns out that the thoughtout bearing is the wrong size for the ST

Ok, sweet. But doesn't a throw out bearing usually come inside of a clutch kit? I'll look into it and make sure I get one either way lol

Question though, does anyone know what would cause the throttle pedal issues?
