what is the st185 3sgte stock boost? and what do you think you could raise it up to safely
3sgte boost - 6G Celicas Forums
I had to bring this topic back cause i have been doning some thinking.
My boost at first was about 10 psi..... but i have dont some mods such as big fmic, water sprayer, 3" exhaust and my boost went up to 13psi somehow and i have not even put on a boost controller yet to turn it up????????
i was thinking of turning the boost up a little bit to about 15 ,,,and i guess i would have to make something to avoid the fuel cut.
have any of you swappers turned up the boost on you 3sgte to like 15 psi or more staying with the stock internals????
just wondering,
DG

Yeah go look on alltrac.net Everyone there turns up the boost because its pretty much proven to be just as easy on your engine as stock boost.
EDIT: I mean only to 15psi also. Thats the magic number...so says all the guru's at alltrac.net

i think it depends on what turbo u are using too.. i think the stock ct26 will start to crap out arter 15psi.
15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
the ct-26 will start to crap out over 15. I know somebody with a supra that was waiting for his single turbo upgrade to come in. He was boosting like 20 to even 25 psi sometimes. After I think a month or so they both blew up, literally. He smoked thick blue plumes about 15ft high and 30-40ft long
Stock boost is supposed to be 8-9lbs. The CT-26 maxes out at about 15lbs. Supra CT-26s are different than Celica/MR2s.
I dont kno why you would think more boost is just as safe as stock boost, that sounds wrong. The 3sgte has been able to handle 25lbs, but not day to day.
Boost cut is 12.7lbs so you should already be reaching cut.
Biggest reason for increased boost is your bigger exhaust. The water sprayer prevents detonation by cooling the cylinders. I really wouldnt have the CT-26 on constant 15lbs, its going to wear it out quicker.

yeah, i would think that the turbo would wear out faster at higher boost. well the reason for my qusetion is i know i hit fuel cut and wow did that suck! i just want the turbo to be able to do whatever it wants up to 15 psi and not hit fuel cut. so ...... is there an easy way to raise the fuel cut to 15 psi and that way if i get 14 psi on the stock setup without a boost controller raising the boost that would work for me. (i don't want to totally eliminate the fuel cut)
thanks,

Do a search on alltrac.net. There is a way to do it cheaply with zenier diodes.
Or you can just buy a boost cut controller. More expensive tho.
Both are adjustable, the BCC will be easier tho.

AT 15psi the main thing I would be worried about on a stock engine is the head gasket and bolts.
With the FMIC you'll be keeping the charge temps nice and low.
The water sprayer? is that spraying ON to the intercooler? Or is it water injection?
I run both on my car the Water injection is extremely effective at pulling charge temps down, The sprayer just helps things along >

If you want to be able to run all day every day - I would go for something around 13psi that shouldn't cause you any problems >

15 shouldnt cause any problems either with the engine, its the turbo. Im confused by this "more PSI doesnt wear down the turbo faster." The turbo is working harder to produce a higher pressure, logic states that harder work will decrease longevity.

I am only running the water sprayer for now, not injection yet. it really cools down my front mount a lot!!!!
i was hoping to hear of other peoples stories and results of running higher boost first hand. i just was wondering who turned the boost up on their stock car and to how much?
thanks,
dg

I know this will sound noobish, but I am about to turbo my 7a-fe so what is this fuel cut thing you are talking about?? Just wondering.
