guess what my girlfriend got me!

I'm leaving tomorrow for a couple days vacation, I'll post pics of the install when I get back. I still need to get the spring insulators and the bump rubbers. also considering buying a spring compressor if they're not too expensive.

you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!(2:27:32 AM) edit: please f*cking work, f*ck, sh*t, piss(2:28:08 AM) edit: that did the trick
you dont need a spring compressor if your lowering and using new struts and springs.
yea you dont need compressors, and if you dont trust yourself go rent them for $ at autozone
quick question, for the fronts (or is is the rears?) it comes with a whole big assembly that the two lower bolts bolt through, and for the other two it's just the shock. I looked through my BGB and it doesn't say anything about the shock being able to be removed. So... how does it come apart?

the rear is the entire assembly. The fronts have just the cartridge that goes into your assembly.
let me look for a link...

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=16867if you have sealed front struts (sports suspension) then it will be a little different, but lets hope for the best

thanks! If I had known about the assemblies sold for the sealed struts before I would've just gotten those. oh well, too late now. I'll just have to check for sealed or not BEFORE I take everything apart. lol.

i actually used a plumbers clamp and tightened the f**k out of it then whacked it with a hammer a few times... flew right off.... the pain in the but is just figuring out how to do the first one... and you cant really check if sealed or not without taking it all apart...

well hey, what fun would any car projects be without finding out you have the wrong parts, running out and getting the right ones at a local store for a lot more than what you would spend on the internet, but with the convinience of having them NOW instead of waiting a few days, and spending 6+ hours on a supposed 2-3 hour project?

sport suspension was an option, not standard on GTs.

first back tire and first front tire took a day a peice the 2nd one took like 50minutes twas fun! just figuring out how to take the bolt out without shredding it and snapping is fun and my crap was RUUUSSTEED!
Be careful with the end links bro. Thats probably going to slow you down with the install. That was the case with myself and Celicam lol.

Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in2grfe Swapped...Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here...A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.@llamaraxing in Instagram is the best way to find me. I'm not too worried about rust. The car has lived it's entire life in California as I bought it from the original owner and as far as I know has never even seen any substantial amount of snow or ice, or even temperatures below 20 degrees.
As for the endlinks, I took one off of the front before because I thought I needed to for something else (turns out I didn't need to, which is why I only did it on one side) and had no problems. I think that if you know how to do it properly (before you strip them out) and have the right tools you shouldn't have any problems with them. but if I do I'll be getting some ST185s as replacements.
anyway, I just came back from my vacation today, I've got to work tomorrow but I hope to go get the spring insulators and bump stops tomorrow and then I have a day off for new years so I hope to get these in on tuesday. hopefully I can do it in one day, even if I do have to get the sealed struts they should be in stock at my local store. They carry KYB and they have never had to order a part for me, they've always had everything in stock that I needed. So hopefully tuesday!

I'm a little surprised this only took about 5 minutes to get out by myself.

I pulled the boot back to take a look and here's what I found.

sealed or not? I see threads where it appears to thread into the strut mount, so I think it's not sealed, but was wondering if anybody else knew better than I do.
also, I have looked and I cannot find the insulators anywhere! online or at stores! I'm a little pissed. and the only bump stops I could find were KYB ones that combine the bump stop and boot, but I'd have to order them... I really wanted to do this tomorrow though! argh I'm a little pissed.

ill say non-sealed...seems like u can get a pipe wrench around that.
anyone with a sealed vs non-sealed strut to compare?

in the pictures above, the shock and the strut are all one piece, but in mine, it looks like the shock threads into the strut.

Mine look like the 2nd and 3rd pics. I tried to use a simple wrench to see if i could twist it open but i think i need some other tool to insert into the holes in the side to have another wrench twirst it the other way.
"Remember, amateurs built the ark and professionals built the Titanic. Butrevolutionariesbuilt the Celica!"- Me
put strut in a vise, use a pipe wrench with pb blaster and twist off, empty old fluid, put new brake fluid in, put shock in, cap it
