7AFE Idling too high - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54911 10 posts Started by GriffGirl
Today I (finally) cleaned the throttle body, but even w/the engine warmed up it's idling around 1700 RMPs. Should I clean the IAC valve? Where exactly is that, anyway? Also, is there a way to adjust the idle?
you probably have a vac leak, make sure all of your vac lines are connected.

hmm did you knock any vacuum lines off? did you take the throttlebody off the car when you cleaned it? sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

the IAC is the thing on the bottom of the throttle body, 3 hoses goto it and inside theres one passage on either side of the throttle plate.

mine idiles at like 2000 untill it warms up then it drops to about 1000...before it was always at like 1200 but im guessing caus of the cold weather it drops? i dunno but it idols a lot lower now for some reason

Cripes, and I'm worried that my idle (while braked) is sitting at 700-800 instead of the 600 before I developed (and had fixed) rod and piston issues.

I didn't actually remove the throttle body, just the hose that leads to the air filter. I'll check vacuum hoses to see if I knocked something off by accident, but driving it this morning, it runs fine (well, not fine, but the same as it did before I cleaned the tb) but not like it's got a vacuum leak. My problem is actually similar to this one that was just posted this morning, but it doesn't actually stall out. Kind of "bucks" when I'm driving it until the engine is warmed up, then only does it a little bit at high rpms on the highway or something. Here's what I've done so far to try to isolate the problem:
- replaced plugs (w/NGK platinum), cap & rotor (wires were done last spring and look fine)
- new engine temp sensor
- new fuel filter
- good ole' seafoam treatment
- current on oil/filter change
- cleaned tb w/carb cleaner by spraying inside tb, letting it sit 2 minutes, starting car & revving engine till warm. Shampoo, rinse, repeat.

Help?
ECU re-learning itself?

Good thinking, I forgot about that. I'll give it a few days/start cycles and see if the high idling works itself out. Still need to resolve bucking issue though...

Still idles high, about 1100 RMPs when it's warmed up and in neutral... As for bucking issue, still doing it somewhat, especially when the engine is cold. Anyone?
Hi mine is exactly the same with the high rpm on idle sitting around 1200,had tb cleaned vacuum leaks checked made no difference at all,but this problem only started when car was off road for 3 months, being started once a week were the idle was high, but when put back on road the idle stayed at 1200 rpm wich with a cat back powerflow exhaust is just a bit too much, have been told to replace tb what does anybody think
