HAHA finaly after months of searching i finally found a 97 gt celica with 140000 miles for 4000$ with minor cosmetic damages.

^^theres some nice low milage celica's in mint condition in my area. theres about 3 of them that are for sale, only problem is they are asking over 10k for them. but in my opinion its worth it

o quick question its kinda nubish but since on the back of the car theres not gt emblem or nothing but when i look at the hood of the engine it sais 5sfe 2.2 which is the gt engine can you help me confirm or do you need pics to tell? but i see that theres also a emblem were theres a dragon on it. The owner said it was a st. haha thanks for all the reply guys.=]

2.2 is gt 1.8 is st

that dragon is a (slightly rare)celica emblem,how big is it?haha u got urself a deal if he thought it was an ST,had no business driving it...

he told it was a st when i looked on the hood were they have that label that says about the engine model and size i remmber gt were somthing around 2.2 . haha ill confirm it on saturday its in my favorite color as well greeen.

Doesnt mean the hood wasnt grabbed from a GT in the junk yard and repainted. That green is exclusive to the 1997 year celica, as is the dragon badge ... although you can order both of them from the dealer.

Also, not being tagged GT makes me question if the previous owner didn't just snipe another hood from the yard after an accident.

oh, and unless its a vert, I'm going to stick with my hunch. Because I just looked through 79 profiles of 1997 GTs. 3 or 4 were deep jewel green. and they were all verts. I know there is a post on these boards somewhere outlining how many of each Limited Edition there were made. and it also included the # of deep jewel green celicas sold.

Pics of the engine will solve this in like .0003 seconds so I guess we will have to hold our breath until saturday .

edit: just found this little beaut of info.
"Only 5000 Limited Editions were made, and that was in 1997. Supposedly it was 3500 ST hatchbacks and 1500 GT convertibles. In 1996, they had the 25th anniversary model, which isn't that special. Limited Edition just came with visual upgrades, nothing performance. Enjoy your car though, treat it good, and it will treat you good. -ecaddiction"

thanks for replys yeah the engine looked more liek the gt since i didnt see the 7afe thing on the header when i was looking at the car. =] sorry for tthe nubish stuff =].

well not all 7afe's have that sticker,mine doesn't...look at the exhaust manifold,and the radiator hoses,the GT sits at almost wat looks like an angle..

I'm fairly certain mine's an ST too (at least I was until like 30 seconds ago) and mine doesn't say 7AFE on the valve cover either. My valve cover looks identical to the one in the GT pic but (what the hell is it?) that thing by the firewall that says 2200 in the GT photo looks like the one in the ST pic that says nothing but a small whisper of sloooooowwwwwness

You are right. The 5sfe looks like its sitting at an angle due to the exhaust manifold. But the difference that kind of stands out to me would be the intake manifold.

It's really easy. Look at the throttle bodies. Is it flat with nothing on it? Its an ST (7A-FE). Is it round with a 2200 sticker on it? Its a GT (5S-FE).
