If your using the ST185 3SGTE with the S53 transmission you will need the 3SGTE pressure plate and flywheel with the 5SFE clutch disk.

What he said. Ideally you would use a custom clutch with a 3SGTE disc and the hub to fit the GT tranny. We stock these clutches in any stage, stage 1 to stage 5, and the prices are good too. Let me know if you need one.

act, spec, or any of the clutch comapanys should be able to make you the clutch setup you'll need.
it will be a 3sgte pressure plate, and 3sgte clutch disk, with the s54 spline.

Yeah except that if you get one from Spec it will shatter on you and they won't do anything about it except give you another, which also will shatter, and then another one, and then....

I think that was an issue with the stage2's. They ended up redesigning it because of it.
Ive had my stage3 for about 2-3yrs now without problems.

after doing tons of reading on how the stg 2 spec hybrid clutch disc would break i went with a stg 3

i had a sprung hybrid stage 3 from spec for a like 6 months and the springs on the sprung disc wore out the metal pieces which held them into place... this caused a large problem. After doing some research this problem i found that this is common among all sprung clutches whose drivers tend to down shift to slow, have short gears, drive a bit aggressively, and tend to back on and off the gas.

i am currently using a unsprung clutch disc (spec did replace it) and it has done fine so far... no chatter... i dig the engagement tons more and it also has allowed me to hon my heal toe shifting; coupled with my LSD helical diff from an MR2 spyder its a very very nice combo...

Its not about one brand being good or bad. ACT, Spec, Clutch Masters, Centerforce, etc...etc... etc... all sell different types of clutches. Some are more aggressive then others and some even have problems. If you google almost any brand, you'll find a forum full of people who have something bad to say about almost every clutch brand out there.

Act sells a very mild street disk, and they also sell some very heavy duty puck clutches. So you cant just say that all Act clutches are good/bad.

I'm pretty sure Spec did redesign their stage 2, cause I've had mine in for quite a while now with no problems.
