I need to replace my rear glass, I have one I can use thats in my wrecked celi in my garage but I have no idea how to take it out. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to how to do it or where to look for instructions on how to do it?

i would just take it to a glass repair place. it will cost you some money but it will also make sure there isn't any damage done to the car or the rear glass.

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
ok thanks, I thought it might be worth a shot to see if anyone had any experience with this sort of thing. I called a few places and they want $450.00+ for a new one installed and $200.00+ to use the one I got in my other car with no guarantee they wont mess it up getting it out.

thats redicilous! shop around you should be aboe to find a place that will do it cheaper...i know up here i can get it done for no more then 200 installed....450+200 to install is a little steep..i would try doin it myself if i were goin to pay that much but yea just look around you should be able to find a place that will do it cheaper

sorry, let me clarify alittle, they told me either 450.00(min) for a new one OR 200.00(min) to use the one I got in my other celi. Both prices included removing my broken glass and installing the replacement. The chance I take by using the one from my other celi is that they are not responsible for any damage while removing it and they will not guarantee it. Apparently the trim is rather difficult to remove without bending or breaking and could cause leaking problems which is why they will not guarantee the install. And if they happen to break the glass I'm just SOL.

hey, have you thought about just transfering the hatch peice completly and repainting it? not to sound rude or nething. but its an idea.
from what i got
is for a new one INCLUDING installation is 450 which sounds fair, new glass (with defrosterlines???) installed correct WITH a guarantee i presume
versus 200 to transfer from the loose hatch you have, to the hatch on your car, being unsure they arent gonna crack it gettin it outta the loose one.
id get the new one even if it runs you like 500, n know its done right. -seeing your from houston i guess you wont need the rear defroster either so just a plain jane piece of glass (then tint it yourself for $20 or whatever and look all cool with tint)

Wait - screw that. Call Apple glass or Atomic glass - they'll come out to you and do it for half that [I paid approx. $150 for a new windshield, installed with sticker swap a few years ago]. The back glass has similar trim and is way smaller if you have a coupe. Whoever you called is trying to rip you off.
Or you can come to my place with your spare glass and I will help you for free.
BTW - Houston is nearly 100% humidity 300+ days a year. So yeah - we def need our defrosters [damn hatch defroster is slower than a stock Celica

I called 3 different company's here in the Pearland / Houston area, Safety Auto Glass, Glass Doctor, and Binswanger Glass. All of them told me around the same price. Its just an expensive piece of glass, Toyota is pretty proud of it I guess.
As for my decision, I still am undecided lol
still waiting to get my first paycheck from my new job I started this month so I really dont have the cash to do anything right now. But I will keep you all updated. I plan on watching very closely how it is done so I can get a "How To" written up and hopefully save someone some cash.
damm what a price for it

Update:
Glass people are scheduled to fix the glass on Monday, I chose to gamble and have them try and use the glass from my wrecked Celi in my garage, hopefully everything will come out ok. Thats gonna run me $200.00 as opposed to the other option which by the way had jumped to $750.00 because they had to have one shipped in from out of state. I think I'm gonna get into the rear celica window selling business, seems to be doing pretty good

I have a related problem: the rear window glass on my 97 celica convertible is coming apart from the plastic seal. There is a large opening now where rain water will collect behind the back seat. This is a problem in Florida. Does anyone know how to fix this problem and possibly glue the glass back onto the plastic?
I'll try to post some pix of my issue. . . Maybe I'll try posting a new topic(?)
Thanks.
