I was just wondering if anyone here has experience with rolled or shaved fenders. I've heard different things from different people, and I was just wondering if anyone has any personal experience with the matter and which choice is better/safer/easier/cheaper.

Also if you are in SoCal, do you have any recommendations to any shops who could do this?

I have talked about that with tinsmith and he told me shave it is save only for few millimeters (5-6mm) because there is fender weld point and cutting it out should make problems... so he recommend me to roll them. However what I know:

Recycle has shaved them and Urputus has rolled fenders... try to ask them for mode details

Looked at both of those members cars, and have no idea what you guys are talking about with the shaved and rolled fenders.

you can only tell if the car has a rolled fender by actually seeing the car in person or someone taking a picture of the inner fender lip.

I have rolled fenders on my Getta Turbo. It helped me when I was completely slammed with tire clearance, but this will only help give you about ~2-4mm of extra space between your tire/wheel and the edge of the fender.

What happens (for those who don't know) when you roll a fender is, take your hand and touch your fender, slide your hand down to the edge of the fender where it meets the wheel well. When you feel the edge of the fender you will feel a lip about 2-4mm long that goes towards the inside of the car, this lip gets rolled up giving a little bit of extra space.



to get more space you can PULL your fenders, but this requires a good amount of body work and repainting.

Ive rolled mine carefully with a sheet metal hammer.. I would not reccomend it though. well what i mean is i would not reccomend doing it that way.

The tool player posted up is a great way to do it yourself.

I had to roll mine because my TSW's were too wide and the side walls were rubbing when i hit a hard bump

another good tool is a baseball bat

Yes, I have heard of the baseball bat method, but my concern is how much it would actually roll the fender. Dont you use your wheel as a lever and basically use the bat to roll your fenders? I remember reading it in a magazine a long long time ago. It seems like that would work, but i would have more peace of mind using the proper fender rolling tool.

If i shaved my fenders and then tack welded around that area again, then it should be fine then right? My passenger qtr panel will need to be replaced anyways, so I'm going to have to wait until i weld a new one in anyways before i can do any fender rolling.


Right now my wheel set up is as follows,

17"x7.5" +42 offset. with 215/45/17 tires all the way around. My rear wheels are definatly in need of spacers more than the front as my rears are very close to hitting my coilovers. If I were to roll the fenders in the rear, then would a 15mm spacer still be too much to add? Would 10mm be too much to add in the front?

I suggest rolling only because its easier, less work, and cheaper.

oversized fender usually defeat the purpose of why people get wheels that require rolling them

by putting on an oversized fender your back to having that sucked in look again

if rolling, make sure the paint doesnt crack so rust doesnt have a chance to build up. if it does crack, make sure to seal it up =)

With stock to mildly lowered (1-1.5) i doubt you would have any problems with the fenders even touching the wheel at all (depending on your tire width and size) assuming that you still have the stock 15" rims.

But if you have coilovers or springs that have dropped your car dramatically and you have rims and tires which you need to "clear", then i believe this mod would be relevant to your needs.

But thats just my 02...

Dan, what wheel and tire size were you running? My tires, even with my stock wheels had issues with rubbing on my Tein coilovers in the rear.

Yes, wooden bat is a must. I can't see how it would look by rubbing a metal fender to an aluminum bat would be like.

Another way would be using hammers. Yerp, small hammers. The downside is that it would look ugly as ****.
