Anyone with a hitch receiver or leather TRD shift knob... - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #55176 10 posts Started by uberschall
..that is handy with measuring equipment? i would like to fabricate a hitch receiver like the oem one (attaches with 4 bolts to the rear bumper support) so i can use it for a bike rack. my old celica had the reciever installed when i bought it, but i took it off for looks and then sold it with the car.

additionally, i'd like to make a shift knob that is the same basic dimensions as the TRD knob that comes with the quickshifter, but i've never actually had one. i have a quickshifter, but not the knob. if i can get the dimensions (overall height, thread depth, counterbore depth, diameters, etc.), i'll be machining it out of delrin, and if the results are good enough i may even elect to make a handful.

neither of these are life or death issues, and even high-res photos would help alot.

thank youse guys!

do you know who i am, mr. worley?
y not just buy a trunk mount bike rack....

BANNED. for life, you moron.
I haven't seen one that works with a hatchback, without a receiver..and I mean safely. Clips that clip on a 1/4" on each side of the liftgate are not safe
i have no input, but im also very interested in the hitch idea

Delrin seems kind of spendy and not as stable to hot and cold temp as abs?
Just curious why you chose it?

JDM guy made me do it.
I have the hitch on my car.

I'll take it off sometime and get some measurements if you want.

i've never worked abs before. delrin machines pretty nicely from my experience, and we've got a bit of a surplus at the moment. if abs would be a better choice, i'm glad to take input...especially since i know you know what you're talking about!

that's awesome! like i said, it's not a life or death matter, even a couple of medium to high-res photos would help me out a alot. thanks, man!

i'm just going to eyeball it by the weekend, i think.

i might hold off on the shift knob for a while. for those of you who were wondering about the hitch scenario, all i can ask you is to consider how cool it would be to have this on your car. if you ride bikes, of course.

cheers.

^^ I have a bike rack very similar to that one. I like it alot, but since I got rid of my Olds, I don't have a car with a hitch reciever to use it frown.gif. If you get a reciever that's the right size I'd highly recommend one.
