squealing around transmission - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #55273 16 posts Started by sparkle
when the engine is cold it doesn't squeal but as it warms up the noise gets louder.

our mechanic said it may be that my transmission has dirt in it but he also mentioned through out bearings...

any ideas on what it is?

tell me everything
manual or auto?

Red oily stuff is tranny fluid... get thee to a mechanic quickly. Is it actually shifting okay? Could be a bad seal, but if your fluid is low (which it sounds like it is, but I'm NOT a mechanic) it could be death to your transmission.

I'd get it in to have it looked at. Could just need a flush/fill and replace the plug seals, but you don't really know till you get into it.
Squealing is generally a belt being too loose or worn. Is the squealing effected by turning the steering wheel? My first guess is power steering belt, as it is towards the bottom of the motor.

It's hard for me to buy the transmission is squealing, there's nothing in there that would really create that noise, but it could be that a squeal to you is something different sounding.

how do you know for sure thats the only thing it is.
i use automatic tranny fluid as power steering fluid

I don't know for sure because I'm in Oregon, not in Huntsville. But you said your squealing is around your tranny, and that there's red oily residue in your driveway. Deductive reasoning would suggest that your transmission is leaking and not getting the proper lubrication.

Check your power steering reservoir and see if it's low then. If it's not, then there ya go. If it is, then perhaps your power steering pump is going out, and the squealing is the ps belt, although it would mostly squeal when it's cold.

if it's on the front of the trans your probably talking about the clutch slave cylinder.
