What are you going to use to tune it with? Looking really good so far man.

yeaaa...lets keep that on the DL "bro" lol

jim- for right now im just gonna grab a SAFC and do my best with it..then take it to the dyno..i still need to pick up a wideband, im gonna grab a good boost controler, and a Devils Own WI kit so i can start messing with the boost. i have the A-pillar pod, and a turbo timer as well..just have been to lazy to put them in...give me a couple more weeks and i'll have some more progress done to her wink.gif

little update...i just picked up some new tires for the front...wow what a difference...the car rides so much nicer, and it actually hooks going into 3rd now...lol...i really wanted 225 or 235's but no place had the size i want...so i picked up a pair of mastercraft 195 50 15's, a lot smaller then i wanted but i figured its only 2 tires for now, and i only paid 86 bucks for the pair. i figure when i get new rims i'll splurge and get some new tires with them as well, but for right now these are hooking a lot better then i thought they would, even with the 195's. i also installed my boost gauge, and oil pressure gauge yesterday in the A-pillar...looks great, still need to hook up the sending unit for the oil pressure but thats no big deal...i'll throw up some pics of the goodies in a little bit, waiting for my camera battery to charge

Edit: heres some pics of the recent progress:

ok..well...a few weeks ago on my way home from my fathers house the celi caught fire. I had the cold start fuel line riged with plastic tubeing and some other stuff, and it held up for a while, but it eventually melt off of the end and it sprayed fuel all over the back of my block. i stoped, looked under the car, and that fast there was a puddle and it was just gushing everywhere. I look back up at my hood and BOOM the whole front end is on fire.

as bad as it looks, the bay cleaned up great, i spent a good 4 hours detailing it, i replaced the cold start with an OEM line, and it hasnt ran better. Untill last sunday night.

After the fire, i made sure no wires were fried, which they werent, and made sure nothing important was burt or destroyed, and for the most part everything was pretty much ok. So i unwrapped what was burnt from the wireing harness and re-wraped everything real good with all new plastic tubeing and new electrical tape. I had a few vac lines that i replaced because they look like they got singed a little bit and i just wanted to be safe. After all that i hooked up my boost gauge, and a few other things and the car was running great, no problems, pulling nice and hard as usual. As im making a right turn onto a local road i lose all power, the motor is still boosting but there is no power at all, it sounded like a coupler blew off or there was a huge vac. leak somewhere, or it was missfireing. So i pulled it into the parking lot and checked everything really good, everything checked out to be fine. then i pulled the plugs which all looked pretty clean as well, then pulled each wire and started it, the only one that didnt make a difference when i pulled the wire was piston number 4. so that was the culprit. After a compression test i did my numbers came back 140 140 135 95. after 2 cap fulls of oil in the spark plug hole i ran the test again and it jumped up to 220, so i figured it is something in my bottom end, either a ringland, something like what just happened to manny. I figured that when i had the fire, i didnt not reconnect my fuel cut, nor did i have a boost gauge to tell me if i was spiking, and that is what did it in. I was also driving her pretty hard during this time. So this is where i am at now, the motor needs to be pulled, i need to replace what is broke, and then throw it back in. I do not have a place to do this right now so that is what is holding me up, or else i woulda had this motor in the air by now. Once i find a place to pull the motor, i should have it back up and running in a week, if all goes as planned. I kinda wish this happened a few months later because then i would have saved up a fully built the motor, but o well, **** happens, it needs to be taken care of, and im going to do it and GIT ER DONE, caus i love my 3s. stay tuned boys and girls caus it aint over yet

Sorry to hear about the Celica, BUT way to keep your head up Bro. I am sure you will be get her back up and running in no time.

Depending on your power goals....a set of forged pistons (4-500$) and having your stock rods shot peened (about a 70$ service) is a pretty bullet proof platform for 400+whp.

yea jim i was thinking about doing that but still, even 500 is a litttle out of my way right now. im thinking of just doing what i have to/replace what i have to, then hopefully this winter i can afford to tear her back down and redo it right. its no biggie, i just want the car running for the rest of the summer thats all.

Kind of sucks to have all that progress and everything finished, and then boom. kindasad.gif Hope it all works out for you.

thanks guys...yea manny basically im thinking its the same problem you had...im not to worried about it though, it could be worse. When i say whole front end...the pictures above the ones i posted of the fire are more recent then the fire pictures...so as you can see it cleaned up great. Im kind of half and half on pulling the motor. half of me is glad i will be because i can fix/finish a couple things i didnt do the first time and the other half caus i really dont feel like doing all this work again after only a few months of driving her around. BUT it will be a learning experience, and im always down for that. The more i know the better and the best way to learn is to do this stuff yourself. Like i said im gonna try and bang this out in a week, week and a half once i have a reliable place to put my car. Hopefully she comes back out running strong and with a few more up grades to her, since im not able to build the block right now the way i want to, im gonna order a few more miscelanious things for it.

well after spending 4-5 hours a day on my car for a full week, i FINALLY figured out what the problem was. i was not getting fuel to the 4th cyclender. yea i know it sounds simple and a no brainer, but i tried absoutly everything and NOTHING was working, i had it hooked up to an ohm meter and it was reading, i tested absoutly everything, riped out the harness again and went over it to make sure that nothing was fried and no wires were touching each other and grounding out somewhere. i ran a few compression tests on it to make sure that was ok. i did almost, absoutl everything, untill today. i picked up this small wireing harness off of my buddy that had some small clips on it that i could hook up to the injector with out the plug. i ran one to the battery as a ground and the other i quickly taped on the positive battery terminal. sure enough it started ideling like normal again. so i came to the conclusion that it is my resistor pack. maybe somewhere down the line i burnt out a resistor and that is whats causing the injector not to fire. so now i need to throw in a new resistor pack and see how that works. right now i have a line spliced into the injector wire and into the resistor pack wire. yea its riged but the car is ideling good so i know this is my problem. im so happy i wont be pulling the motor and its something as easy as this...WOO HOO!!!!

good job tracking this down, this is why i really really dont look forward to learining wiring.

what about that massive compression loss in the 4th cyl you mentioned before?

thats a good call joe. i was thinking of that when i was testing your stuff out, but though...how on earth could the resistor pack go bad? ive never heard of that happening to anyone.

the compression test is an odd one. when i went to retest it, the car had perfect compression across all 4.

Damn - so glad this turned out OK bro. You took your time and did this right from painting the engine bay out - glad she's running again.

Wow,dam STs are nothing but trouble huh:p...great looking car!!i hope u get her running relaibly soon!!

BANNED. for life, you moron.
well guys i have been out of the game for a little bit. The car hasnt been running great the past month or so but i figured out exactly what the problem was. I had a resistor in my resistor pack burn out and it wasnt sending the right voltage to my #4 injector, causing it to run like $hit, i bought a resistor pack off of all-trac.net, threw it in and its running good again. I still think i have a few boost/vac leaks comming from somewhere because when i get on it i can hear the air making a hissing noise and its not pulling as hard as it should be, nor holding boost for an extended period of time. Over the past month the car has kind of been on the back burner, but now that i have some money saved up i bought a few new goodies for her, and they will continue to come in the next couple of weeks as i get a few more checks. heres what i picked up and im pretty excited to throw on her and see how they work out.

resistor pack-installed

i'll be keeping you guys updated...next is a wideband to complete the A-pillar, an SAFC, not sure if i wanna go with the II or the neo yet but that will come eventually, and a meth kit, then hopefully i can go and get her tuned and post up some numbers...im hoping to be some where around 220-230 to the wheels

Well the BOV is in, along with the low temp thermostat. this week i'll be grabbing an safc II so that will be in along with the oil pressure gauge, turbo timer, FPR, and a few other things....looking forward to this week...hopefully i can play around with the SAFC and get this thing running just a little bit better
