Hey guys... I need some help here... first of all, I am getting tired of the loud exhaust that I have right now and thinking of getting a resonator. I have a 2.25 straight pipe with a CLA muffler (I bought the car with the muffler in it). I am looking to change that in a year or two but it is not in my priority right now. Like I said I am getting tired and annoyed of the sound loud... it doesn't have that ricey sound but it just annoys me and my wife. So, I'm thinking of getting a resonator but concerned about the HP drop. I know that my car isn't that fast enough too but why whould I go slower if my car is already slow . If anybody could just tell me if it's worth getting the resonator or maybe just point me in the right direction please. Many thanks to all......

So I was doing some research and found out that a glass pack would actually solve my problem. Is this true? It will reduce the noise and still retain my current HP? How much do you guys think it is? Any ideas????

I used a magnaflow 22" round resonator to rid most of the "loud" from the exhaust. It will work just as good or better then a glass pack because it also shares a straight-through design.

You won't feel any difference with or without a resonator. No need to get worked up about it, no one is going to think less of you if you put a resonator back on your car. Just do what makes you happy.

this is good stuff as my muffler is really loud cuz i cut out the stockie resonator when i replaced my muffler piping :\ n i didnt keep it..

wait we got a resonator O__o could that explain the second muffler looking thing??? wow that's prolly why my car is soooo quiet.............lol imma go looks under my car again. cuz im planning on replacing the piping to all 2.25".

yee thats what that is. it straight looks like another muffler. a lil longer i believe, but yee. what kinda muffler u got on urs 808? i got a biggie n its loud as hell..i shoulda left the resonator on..

the resonator is what keeps the 7afe from sounding like a buzzing civic, the stock one is straight through and does not harm performance at all. leave it or replace it with a new one when you change pipe sizing. taking it out will pretty much make your car sound like loud slow ass.

Thanks for the replies guys... I ma go to my local exhaust shop and get the glass pack installed with my set-up. I'll probably get a better muffler as well.

well you can say from my ass back is 2.25" piping dumping into a 4" apexi n1. gonna replace the flex pipe and that second cat looking thing.........then prolly leave the resonator as is.

i'm not sure how loud my exhaust is come to think of it. i normally have my stereo blasting so i can't hear it LOL. although the other day when i was cruising i noticed my car is kinda loud. hmm......
i'll have to get me one of those exhaust sound video clip of my exhaust.

i have a cat back with 2 1/2 pipeing with no resanator i think it sounds better with no resanator

Depending on the muffler [and the money usually ] you won't need a resonator. It wouldn't hurt you performance wise unless the inlet and outlet are smaller diameter than your piping. Just get it.

Yeah... thanks DEATH for actually answering my question and helping me . HKS hi power silent are just way too expensive for me. Apexi's are still a bit loud for me. I'm going tomorrow to my local exhaust shop and get a resonator installed. I just called them and they gave me a quote of 60$cad for parts (Cherry Bomb glass pack) and labour. Should I get a glasspack or just a plain resonator?

Just get a resonator. Make sure the inlte/outlet are the same size as your piping or your intended piping when you finish the exhaust.

A resonator is not the same as a glass pack, or even a modern straight-through muffler.

A resonator, well, resonates. It's an echo chamber which bounces soundwaves into each other, cancelling them out and transforming the energy into heat.

A glass pack (e.g. Cherrybomb) is 1950's technology which can actually decrease the ability of your exhaust system to evacuate the combustion chambers. Cherrybombs have louvered interiors, meaning they have a lot of little lips inside designed to direct some of the gas stream onto the fibreglass insulation surrounding the centre pipe. Think about what happens when you stick a finger into the stream from your garden hose -- doesn't flow as well. All those louvers create turbulence in the exhaust flow and reduce the forward momentum, which defeats the whole point of the system.

Modern straight-through mufflers, such as MagnaFlow's MagnaPack or its round universal mufflers, are a significant improvement on the glasspack design. They are also absorptive technology, using a combination of stainless steel wool and ceramic insulation to absorb vibrations from the exhaust flow. However, they use a perforated inner pipe, rather than a louvered one, so as not to disrupt the proper flow. This way, you can use a longer muffler and reduce the sound level with minimal impact on the efficiency of the exhaust system.

Short form: resonators are better at smoothing the sound than making it quieter, while absorbtive mufflers are better at quieting the sound than smoothing it. Neither will have any appreciable effect on your car's performance, unless you can notice the difference between driving with a full stomach.
