5sfe stock hp - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #55606 11 posts Started by JasonX
hello guys,
just wondering when 5sfe supposingly says it's 135hp, is it really 135 hp? and what's the difference between hp and whp? i was wondering 'cause I heard the gains from cams is 20-30 hp. so, if I had colt cams and injen sri, could i claim 160 hp. just don't wanna say I have around 160 hp and bs myself biggrin.gif.

thanks

the diff between hp and whp is hp is the power to the crank where whp is power to the wheels. i believe the also call it bhp or braking horse power. as far as i know the 5sfe has a measly 110 whp frown.gif if that

the closest dyno test to stock hp for the 5sfe I've seen on here.

^^^ I know, but it's the hp to the wheel that actually counts biggrin.gif

also thought it would be useful to answering the question.

Do not overlook Dustin's mod's that he has to his celica at the time of the dyno.

It claims he had:
hardwelded camshafts (grind 294)
header, cat back exhaust

Now that to me, is by no means STOCK.

135 crank HP might be found in a well maintained slightly high mileage 5SFE, but for a typically abused motor with over 100XXX one can only fathom the loss of HP.

Basically, the only way you can get a real look at your HP is to dyno your car, everyone has different results, even with the same mods.
heres what a good condition, lower mile 5s will look like on the dyno.
this is with a injen short ram intake only.
this is from my car, pre turbo.
the engine had under 55K on it.

on this dyno what's the line that initially starts low, and what's the higher one?

I don't know if I have my dyno sheet but I got 99 whp with a short ram intake and muffler only... pretty much stock..

~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207
the top one is for torque(unless we all have 125HP at idle)[use the right axis to find the reading]

the lower one that starts off is the power (HP)[use the left axis to find a reading]

so looking at rpm (right down the bottom) 90HP @ 3750rpm

(hope I dont sound like a school teacher)

The first dyno is not what a stock 5SFE dyno looks like. That's vastly improved over stock by about 10-20whp depending on the motor's condition, and the torque curve is significantly better. Typical 5SFE's will run out of breath around 4500 rpms and the torque dips significantly. The top dyno doesn't lose much torque until around 5300-5400 rpms. That is a significant difference in terms of accelerating the car. IMO, whoever that dyno belongs to, can still squeeze extra power with some good cam tuning.

As far as which is which, the flatter line that starts flat is usually the torque (applies to most engines) and the line that climbs as the rpms increase is horsepower.
