I've got a lot of oil in my intercooler piping and I don't want it there! what are the causes of that and what can I do to reduce it?

before or after intercooler ?

if it's before that's most likely bad seals on your turbo.

bad turbo seal.... check ur turbo right away, how much was in there, a little is normal, well for the mr2's i have seen, but not alot

get a good turbo ( not a used one ) and your problems will be solve once for all.

or send one of the cores you have ( if in good condition ) to get rebuilt.

well, if I'm getting another one, I'm getting a t3/t4, GT28rs, CT-27, or CT20B. probably the t3/t4 or gt28rs though because I can't justify the "cost per horsepower" on a CT20B or CT-27... yes, it's true, once you get a taste of horsepower, you just want more and more!

in any case, I don't have the money for any of those right now.

how much boost were you running on the turbos? do you use a turbo timer, if so how long do you let the car idle for after a hard boost.

The t3/t4 is the more cost effective way of doing the turbos on the celica i think, the ebay ones work ok, I have done about 8000 miles on my t3/t4 chinese turbo at 20pound daily driven with no problems...

seeing how ur saying turbo i am asuming u got a 3s-gte 2.0L. i have just actually done all the calculations to run a turbo at 15 lbs of boost with a projected hp gain at max efficeney of 300hp and the garrett gt7031R or the gt 7036R is plenty should have low turbo lag and good boost

actually I've got a 5sfte. but seriously... a GT35 is a pretty big turbo. and a GT42 is a huge turbo... but GT70? that's gargantuan! that's gotta be a turbo capable of like 1500hp. lol

anyway, technically this is only my second turbo. I paid for one and never recieved it. then I got another and it was in terrible shape and was missing a ton of parts and siezed after about a week of boosting. Then I got this one and the guy I got it from said it only had 30K miles on it. and it has very minimal shaft play. I'm running about 10 PSI on it, but it creeps up to about 12 in 5th gear. and I do have a turbo timer. I usually let it idle about 10 seconds if I did normal driving with no boosting, 30 seconds if I boosted it a little but it had a few minutes of normal driving before I shut it off, and 1 minute 30 seconds if I boosted it really hard, or just got done a hard run.

If I do anything, I'm leaning towards the T3/T4 route. it seems like it'd be the most cost effective. but I'd probably get a geniune garrett turbo rather than an ebay one. but I keep hearing good reports of the ebay ones lately when I used to hear only bad reports.

Having oil in your intercooler does not mean that you have a blown turbo. Its probably normal blow by from not having a catch can installed between your pcv and air intake.

As long as you have a proper oil feed restrictor then you shouldnt have any more issues with blown turbos.

so a ctach can between the valve cover and intake or PCV and intake manifold? or, ideally, would I want both? I wonder if it's possible to weld an extra fitting on either side of the catch can to clean two lines of oil with only one can.

Truth, If its a little oil its your pcv, if its alot, like puddles then you have a problem.

Along with an oil restrictor, make sure your drain line is unobstructed, If the oil cant exit fast enough because the feed is too much then you will have a problem. so the drain and feed go hand and hand.

it's a lot. like, I had a coupler blow off, and I drove about a mile to get home before popping the hood. and you could see splatters of oil on the downpipe and radiator, basically anything within range of where the piece of IC piping coming off my turbo, which is the one the coupler blew off of, was pointing.

but anyway, I finally installed an oil restrictor yesterday. I've had it for a while, and tried to install it a few times, but my friend installed the fitting that was there so tight that it was next to impossible to remove. the corners of the nut were rounding off because the wrench would slip. but we were finally able to get it out without destroying it yesterday. so hopefully that'll clear some of it up.

im with lagos on this one, might be blow-by... my catch tank got rid of much of it.
