Why is Duplicolor Engine Enamel 500º paint? Don't you have to use 1200º paint for valve covers? I realize they have that ("High Heat Paint") but why is what they call "Engine Enamel" 500º?

Duplicolor engine enamel is usually 1200* from what I've seen and the 500* stuff says Caliper paint [I should know I only have 25 half empty cans of the $hit in the garage

500 would be block valve cover that sort of thing 1200 would be for headers exhaust stuff.

I just use the 500* on most everything cause it has the deepest/darkest red. the 1200* I only use in flat black for that formerly rusted ass downpipe of mine. Looks all better now.

Positive, I was looking at it last night in a store and just verified it on the duplicolor web site. And yeah, caliper paint is 500º too, I remember 'cause I was comparing engine enamel to caliper paint.

It is interesting that you mention the primer/clear coat, b/c the Duplicolor can instructions do not even mention using a primer before painting or a clear coat...just a lot of cleaning prep. But I'm sure priming and/or clear coat makes for an even better job.

The instructions are for how to use the can, not how to paint lol
