Change it to Liftback - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #5583 18 posts Started by Chrobis
Well, frankly I hate hatchbacks... I think there nasty looking, and dirty little cars that you would see circus freaks driving! CLOWN CARS if you will! I just dont want my car refered to in the same manor as those ugly honda's and nasty VW Golf's! DOWN WITH HATCHBACKS! POWER TO THE LIFTBACK!

So on this site he 6th gen liftback is reffered to as a hatchback in the members ride section and also the parts database, prolly many other places. Of course Coomer dosnt mind, he has a Coupe. >tongue.gif> >tongue.gif> >tongue.gif>

Coomer: I was hoping you would possibly change it if its not to much trouble!

I have seen lift and hatch both used respectivly. What is the tru toyo term for it?

But my vote goes to lift.
I've always referred to it as liftback, it's on my isurance papers etc.

I voted to change it!
Well i did some research last night and toyota calls it a liftback. I guess the name just got adapted over the years.
It is listed as a liftback, in kelly blue book, by toyota, and insurance companies. People just have never heard of the word "liftback" so they always say "hatchback". Acura Integra's are liftbacks, VW Golf's are hatchbacks... there gross and boxy and flat in the back.

Well let me rephrase, not all hatchbacks are ugly... some are actually pretty cool. But I dont think my celica should be refered to as a hatchback.

Even if it is changed it will never change what your car is. Ive heard the word hatchback thrown around my car. Liftback sounds like your a little too obsessed with your car. If someones talking about your car and their like yeah that hatchback Celica and you shout out "It's a LIFTBACK"... Just a lil creepy. >smile.gif>

i am awesome
creepy is sometimes good >wink.gif>
liftback fits the car better because the back lifts up

there isnt a hatch like a civic hatchback or focus hatchback or golf.

Think about this now. In all honest the companies got it all backwords.

The liftback should be when the entire back lifts. Generally when you think of the back of the car what do you think of? Taillights, Rear bumper, trunk, spoiler. On Golfs pretty much the whole back raises.

I just dont like the word hatchback after typing it too much, it makes me kinda think my car is a hunchback. Ironically I do go to Notre Dame. Haha J/p.

i am awesome
Lift back is the way it should be. If toyota named it liftback then it should be lift back. We got Toyota liftbacks not Honda hatchbacks.

well since hatch in military terms means door i think that it should be lift back cause thats what it does its not a door
finally other people are starting to realize this.. I have been trying to correct people on this for almost a year or so on here. I think it should be changed also

I like the term liftback better, but I dont honestly think it's worth coomers time to change it even if it takes only a second

Ray has a point about the 'door'. But...most cars with a hatch/lift are referred to as having an extra door.
