no; it's cool. I dont care.

And if anyone is off topic on my lil thread it's me and death making bets on who is right. lol. Forgive us, us Houston members have a meet this sat, and it gets pretty competitive when we've spent as much money as we have. lol. well, competitive with a smile (and a pitcher, WOOT!!)

But on topic, Yeah, I'm trying to get my hands on a broken body kit, (for 30 bucks) to repair and resell. And to see how it indeed attaches. it's an invader kit off a wrecked car. the kit itself is in one solid peice (mostly), and i do fiberglass work, so that's goiong to be fine, but it'd be a learning opertunity for me and theese new (new to me) celicas and how their aftermarket counterparts do.

It's just getting this member online. She's being a pain in my hassle. (that person with your crash bar, death)

But importantly, i want to know the level of mod required, so that i can get my blitz kit. That was the theme of this whole thread. lol.

EDIT:(like i ever stay on topic laugh.gif )

i don't agree - I think it made perfect sense for you to post it here. It was short, simple and quite on topic. Why others feel they have to stick their nose in other people's conversations and throw the rules at them like that I have no idea. I get the feeling some people are attn seekers and approval seekers from the mods.
Kiss asses in other words.

D-man, I installed a veilside full kit on a hatch, the biggest prob was the rear bumper.

Where the kit and the rear fender meet I had to trim some off the top of the kit because it was wavy from extra jell coat or fiber, (wasnt sure) but the top of the kit was like a half T or upside down L and screws went up into the rear fender stock holes.

I had trouble also with sucking the bumper in to meet the fenders right behind the back wheels.

The kit when bolted up it stuck out from the body, luckily some sanding fixed that.

When finished the only thing I didnt like was that there was a gap between the taillights and the bumper, It looked like the tails needed to move down.

But, overall very satisfied.
Do you have a pic of this Bootslimo? From what i can imagine of your description, it sounds like a reform is in order for the top parts hanging away from the body of your car. You can do this by heating the skirt, and folding/bending it into place. Alot of pro's do it by hand, but i've seen people do it by holding it to the body and heating the kit that way. It's best if done before painting. This can be done with a heating lamp, or a hairdryer. Sounds crazy, but i've seen great work from a hair dryer. lol. You just have to make sure you dont burn it. lol.

I prefer a heating lamp, bc you have your hands free to hold and mold to the car itself. All cars start the same, but over time the panels shift just a little tiny bit. I am a firm believer that the only way to ensure a proper fit is to use the car itself as its own mold. Then by removing it, and exaggerating a key bend to ensure that it holds tight.but that's me.

You were 100% right for sanding it down where need be, that was probably resin for leeway. On some kits, during production, they use a sheet of plastic between the mold and the kit that's being molded, the first layer is always plain resin for those purposes. some kits are composed of solid resin, that's how they maintain those very flexible profiles. It is good to have a fairly flexible kit, but it is also a bad thing at the same time. They have their advantages and disadvantages. Remember Terminator 2? the T1000 had advantages, but was ultimately weaker (hand to hand) than Swartzanager's Terminator. Same idea, different medium.

I'd love to see a pic of this, because id be much more able to help you to perfect this. And i'd love to see a current pic of your car. BTW, the neons look fantasterific! biggrin.gif

The car was sold, but i still have pics, the rear mudflaps ended up holding the body kit in, never seen a prob with cracking even after paint.
Hey, i'd still like to see em. Link or img codes?

i gotta admit, it does look clean. Man i love that rear bumper. i wish i could have one...

Well, The pics were way to blurry to get a good idea of what you were talking about as far as the kit hanging off, i still say re-form it if it's bad enough.

Sorry to hear that you got rid of it though, you should have gave me that kit first tongue.gif

Wait....

This imagie just proved my question from page 1. The kit DOES infact lay over the fenders, and the rear quarter panels, right on the bottom 8-12 inches? i guess...

It didnt go over, that was where the original bumper was. Im pretty sure there were two or three bolts that went upward into the rear quarter, and two or three in the rear mudflap, or if you dont have the mudflat there should be two or three holes there anyway.

Barely....

^ Your next mod should be a digital camera. smile.gif

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
Does anybody have the "V-fiber" products like mentioned in the first post? Or know anything about them? Are they more durable than regular fiberglass. cause I really hate fiberglass. on every fiberglass kit/lip I've seen, after a few months there's always chips and cracks and it looks terrible.

94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive
u guys should e-mail nextmod.com and see if they'll start making kits for the celicas. i just recently purchased a lip kit for my IS250 and the front lip is made up of some kinda fiberglass that is extremely flexible and has alot of give to it.

http://www.nextmod.com/index.php?target=pa...p;page_id=media

check out their quality....and their customer service is top notch. just a suggestion. I dont know if this is the "V-Fiber" material that 6strings was talkin about

Note to new members. Discussions such as the ones below are forbidden.http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=26310&hl=
that v-fiber stuff is all over ebay. i watched a video and i was impressed, the dude actually stood on the bumper...

i'm curious about it too. i really wish my front end was polyurethane frown.gif

**If you play My Brute, joing the 6gc.net clan!**--A section of a kid's actual test that had been scanned--
I now have dig camera, and just ordered my front vader bumper. Maybe I will start a new thread on how to install. Want to have three coats of clear to avoid those common chips earlier stated.
Anyone needing vfiber stuff. let me know =)

Some of you guys have the vfiber skirts from me.
i just got my new vis invader bumper in the mail today smile.gif

needs a bit of touching up, but seems very nice
can't wait to throw it on
okay kids, it's time for me to interviene.

Polyurethane isnt the most flexible stuff in the world. It compresses. (it flexes into itself) like a F-ing dry sponge.

Flexible fiberglass is obtained by using a SMALL amount of hardener in your Resin/hardener ratio. or with too much Fiber and not enough Glassing Syrup.

Polyurethane is crap in my book. C.R.A.P.

fiberglass with a bad (flexable) ratio is more likely to warp over time. from 2-3 months to a year or so....

Proper ratio is the only way to go. DONT WRECK YOUR CAR INTO SCHETT, also; is the best way to go. biggrin.gif

i've been doing this for years, i may be wrong, by my experience tells me all that i care to know. wink.gif

Polyurethane is great untill you get into a wreck. Properly mixed fiberglass is great; after a wreck, you can repair it for about $10. biggrin.gif

Flexable fiberglass is USELESS AND A WASTE OF MONEY!!

poly is fine, just too expensive for my taste, if your are rich, than do it. If you are not rich than use a medium+ grade of fiberglass. NOT FLEXABLE!!

Good luck guys. I"ve leared a few things about this V-FIBER and apparently it's crap... Sorry, cheap, but crap.

Now; Lets talk about cheap mod's to cheap fiber glass... I got em...

I'll be back with another post to describe how to do it right. With the worst of materials wink.gif

I have the v-fiber zyclone front bumper and its pretty good for the price tongue.gif . It came with a good coat of primer, nice mesh, even screws and anchors for your license plate. The fitment was good except for little gaps around the high beams. I didn't try any of the crazy stuff they say it can do but i have ran up on a few curbs while parking and it hasn't chipped, cracked, ect. I wouldn't say its crap at all; especially if you've never even seen it in person biggrin.gif .
