Stock BOV Problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #56183 5 posts Started by thedrunkfish
I have recently sold my 6g celica and purchased a st215 gtt caldina. Couldnt find any forums that deal with the caldina so thought i would post here as the 3sgte is very similar to the on in the st205.
The factory blow off valve is leaking, the cover pops off all the time. I can clip the cover back into place and it works ok but then it pops off and just starts leaking again, very frustrating. Do i just need to replace the unit or is it a common problem thats easy to fix.
Cheers.

I have a caldina motor as well and MOST parts are very similar to the 205. if i can see a pic to be sure its the hard plastic BOV i think it is would be great, but when i first got my swap done i noticed air constantly leaking from the blow off valve found out the spring was not strong enough so i just bought a new one

I would suggest buying the HKS ssqv it workes along with the boost pressure (there is a diagram in a thread a few below this one)

you could put something around the bov to stop it comming off, hose clamp, cable ties.
or like has been said just abuy another one, hks ssqv a pretty expensive when compared to other brands, i personally like turbosmart supersonic and megasonic because they are a large, good flowing and excellent sounding bov (decent whoosh sound insted of a high pitched bird kind of sound)

all personal preferance though.

Thanks for your replies. Yes it is a hard plastic one attached to the air box. I figured the stock one was designed specifically for the engine so i just got another from the wreckers and replaced it, 5 minute job. Boosting very nicely now, I beleive st215 boost 14psi standard 257hp. The other reason i didnt go for hks or turbosmart was the price and i dont particularly want a loud one. Going to hok up the boost gauge tommorrow should be fun.
