This is the hose I used, disconnected from the end the arrow points to. 224,000 miles on it w/a 90k engine.

Run engine until warmed up. Get a plastic water bottle that has the sport-nozzle thing on it. Make sure it's DRY inside, and pour about 1/3 of the can of seafoam into it. Use that disconnected intake hose to then suck the seafoam, w/the engine running, up. If the engine stalls it's fine, don't freak out. After 1/3 is sucked up, shut car off right away. Let it sit about 5 minutes, then restart engine and rev it or drive it around, just burn off the carbon/seafoam, it'll be smokey but it's okay, that will dissipate.

Key is, do this literally just prior to doing an oil change. You don't wanna drive around w/engine gunk running back through everything you just cleaned out.

Pour another 1/3 into a half-full gas tank to clean injectors/fuel system.

So we do the oil change right after? Even if we don't put the stuff directly into the oil? This sounds very interesting, I might have to try this stuff out...
well, burn the stuff off first, run your car until the smoke dissipates, and then do an oil change. I don't think it'll kill ya if there's a day or two between the seafoaming and the oil treatment (okay so I know it won't wink.gif ) but it's advised to change your oil after the seafoam treatment.

I've read differing opinions about adding seafoam to the oil. Some people have done it I guess, but the predominant sentiment is that this is a really bad idea. I'd skip it. (It's my understanding and belief anyway that oil additives really aren't the greatest for your car anyway, except for a very few select products out there)

is there different brands of seafoam or is it the brand named seafoam? Could I get this at crappy tire or should you go to your part guy/store? I should really use it, i have like 160ish kms on it but im starting to think that it may be miles :S so thats quite a bit of km's! i got the cars vin looked up here at toyota cause we know someone there and they said it was never registered in canada...and the gauges are aftermarket and in miles....i too wouldnt mind a write up if anyone had it cause i dont want to mess anything up either.

this is what i used 2.5 years ago when i did my 1st tune up... not sure which is better though btwn this and seafoam but this does the same thing.. it's $3-$4 a can at PartsSource.. not sure if CrappyTire has 'em. but i know Wal-Mart does. i've been around many autoparts stores and never did i see this 'seafoam' anywhere.. hmm.. but i'll keep looking

now that everybody know how to use it, i'd recommend doing this on the hwy and after the engine sucks up all the liquid from the can, drive at a relatively high rpm steadily to help clean out the cylinders and exhaust system better. at night would be ideal, since no one will really see the smoke and think your car is f'ed up and give you weird stares. i've also read that it's best to do this right before a tune up, not after.. cuz it's not good for your spark plugs.

uh, I put in NGK iridiums in my car recently, would this mess them up? They dont' grow on trees so i'd like to not replace them. Should I stay away from it?

Good point, I recently just replaced mine too. it would suck to have to do so again...
I did it to my car before, but I did it through the brake booster line. Many of you are suggesting going through the throttle body, so if I wanted to do that, would it be the hose that I circled?

IPB Image

Also, would I take off the side that's on the valve cover?
Ahem....

The brand is Sea-Foam and its in a metal can with red writing. We did it to Havok's GT with 209K miles on it, and it ran a lot better afterward. The hose we pulled was one of the ones on the pass side of the throttle body, and it worked fine. As long as the hose you pull off has suction (just put your thumb over it and see), it should be fine. Just make sure you keep the rpms up, and DON'T DO IT IN A GARAGE. As much fun as that was playing 'ghosts in the dark', it can get a little cumbersome.

"He won't come out of the bathroom. He keeps telling us we're dark somethings and not his friends.""Hmm. Ask him if he's the dragon reborn.""What?""Just do it."".......He said yes.""Tell him you are not darklings. He should open up."".......Sweet. Thanks.""No problem."
I didn't change my spark plugs after doing it. in fact, I did it after I did a tune-up. I never had any problems, it just would be better if you did it before a tune-up.

as space panda said, any line leading to the intake manifold which has vacuum (suction) will work. if you were to use that hose (I believe it would have suction) you would pull off the valve cover side of the hose because you want the seafoam to enter the intake manifold.

Oh my god.... I love seafoam as well. I put in a full bottle in my gas tank about a week ago and it was a lil better. I needed an oil change, sucked it in through my intake and changed the oil and oh my god... I honestly feel like i've got a car that has under 50,000 miles. She runs so much better, no irratic idling, and my goodness the gunk that came out when I was changing my oil(yuck). But now I believe I have found a small exhaust leak cuz I had the white smoke comin out from one particular part of the exhaust under the hood and need to change out some seals too cuz my engine bay started blowin out some white smoke as well....... I love this stuff!

well i finally went out and bought some and boy i was suprised! lots of smoke, and now it runs soo much better! put seafoam into the vac line only + i fixed a leak comin from my throttle body + full oil change, = brand new motor!

If you cant find it over your way Diana, best thing to do is you can go to Canadian Tire, they sell this thing called the "Auto-Care" Fuel system cleaner. Its about $99+tax with a free oil change...its the same thing. But they also use a oil flush, fuel cleaner *same thing as seafoam..but not as strong*, and an oil treatment. Its pretty decent, and you should b able to find it at any local crappy tire. If not, then see if you can find sea-foam at a Car Quest autoparts store. Thats the only place ive been able to find it.
hey if i am planning a roadtrip with a beat up honda with 190XXX miles one it do u think seafoam will help make it from PA to NC?

ok so i couldn't find the spray anywhere around here, just the bottled additive that you add to a tank of gas. but i need some suggestions. i just got a few things and wondering what order would be best to complete them in.
a) 4 quarts castrol syntec 10w-30 oil (thought i'd give it a try, it was on sale..) & mobile 1 oil filter
b) seafoam bottled additive to clean out the injectors and the entire engine
c) new air filter because its been a long ass time since i've replaced it and i'm not going CAI until this summer when the swap gets done.

so... do i change my oil first? or use the seafoam? because won't the filter get clogged w/all the dirty particles the seafoam is gonna be breaking down... causing me to have dirty synthetic oil? yea don't want that. ideas? thanks.

oh, ps- sorry for jacking your thread. lol

dump 1/2 bottle seafoam into oil, idle for 20 min and then drive a few miles. drain oil hot, change filter, put in new oil.

i've never used it in my gasoline, just in oil and sucked into the intake manifold.

in regards to the overseas thing, i think you just cant send chemicals / hazardous materials through the mail...

but i love this stuff too. smooth idle now smile.gif mmm

put the seafoam in first. there isn't a spray, it just comes in a bottle. what you do is put 1/3 of it in some container like a plastic cup and then take a vacuum hose leading to the intake manifold that has vacuum and suck 1/3 of it into there. then you're supposed to put 1/3 in the gas tank and 1/3 in the oil. but I'd recommend against putting it in the oil. anyway, change the oil like 15 or 20 miles after you put the seafoam through. the air filter can be changed before or after. read the instructions on the back of the seafoam container to learn how to use it correctly.

Yes ,you want to unhook the hose from the valve cover and suck the seafoam through that end.The reason its better to use it from the hose you mentioned is because it connects to the middle of the throttle body,so the seafoam can drain equaly to every intake runner.

Canadian Tire doesn't carry it, but NAPA stores do.
DeepCreep and SeaFoam are also available at AutoZone
i live in riverside , ca and i want to De-carb my engine with seafoam , anyone know an open area i can do it at ?? or even better an actuall shop that does engine de-carb in the area ?
I love this stuff man. My car has 166K+ miles on it and I swear to ya when I say that now it runs like it has about half of that. The only problem I saw was that if you add it to your fuel tank, make sure that when you are done driving that you have enough gas to get to a gas station lol. You can read my post about this in the forum. But I DO LOVE this stuff. Great price 7.99 and it does wonders on your car.

In Riverside, couldn't you just go somewhere off I-15 where there are all off those hills and crap where people go off roading? There should be somewhere you can go. lol

Do you have a Mr. Lube over there atleast?
Ask for a stage 4 fuel man. job.

Sadly, also no Mr Lube in the UK. Drive thru oil changes? Much too convenient...we like to pay more, waste time, and get less laugh.gif

No really. frown.gif
As far as putting it in with your oil, I would think that you need to put it in right before your oil change, right?

For example, pour it in, run it for 5 minutes, then do the change.

even if i only put it into the intake manifold and gas tank i still need to change teh oil?

Do I need to change the spark plugs after running seafoam through the intake manifold?
