Topic #56438 13 posts Started by Legit94GT
So the shop that was going to handle my 3s swap has backed out and handed me off to another shop

koracing.net

So now i have to start all over with another shop explaing what i want and everything! arg!! the company seems to be able to ahndle what i'll need though, so at least he passed me off to a good shop... i guess i could be happy about that, right?

OH well i will start the phone calls tomorrow...again...

arg, really giving some thought to finding a buddy with an engine hoist and just doing it our selfs and sending the wiring to Tweak, cause i am getting tired of being jerked around by shops who just waste my time...

whatever i am going to go gorge on some pizza to feel better about myself now smile.gif

I should've put this in off topic i guess, my bad...

seems a bit odd to past you on? you'd think they'll want the business?

A lot of members would advise to do it yourself because you also learn too at the same time, plus its not that hard once you send in the wiring to Dr. Tweak. And you save yourself a lot of money, but just out of curiosity, how much are they charging your for the swap?
you wont have to tell the guys at KO much.
kris is a great guy, and an unbelievable fabricator.
if this last shop bailed on you, your much better off with KO.

They wanted around 2,000 for labor... but it was a sketch estimate at best, he just kidn tossed a number at me kindasad.gif
And i would do it myself, but i have no workspace to do it in, i dont have all the tools to do it, and it would take me way way longer to do it myself than in a REAL SHOP, and since i'll have to bum rides i want as little down time as possible. I know it would be a good expeirence for me to do, and truth be told i will spend time at the shop watching them do some of it.

I know how to work on cars and i understand how everything works adn all that jazz, but i freaking hate working on cars!! so i'd rather pay to have someone else get all pissed off about it than myself lol

You would think they would want my business, but his techs must not have had alot of faith on doing it themselves, so maybe it is a good thing they passed me on... time will tell

For 2k...

You can rent a car while your car is down. Buy all the necessary tools and do it yourself. After everything is said and done I'm sure you can spend less than 1000 on top of the motor.

Benefits:

A bunch of new tools that is yours. Valuable knowledge of your car.

maybe i could buy all the tools i need for it... a good jack, jack stands, a motor hoist, misc other tools that i wont know i need till i get neck deep in it... then im driving to the store to buy the right tool, only to do the same thing again later that night, renting a car for like the week+ it would take me to do this would be like 500 bucks alone... if not more...

Plus i still wouldnt have a work space to do it in.

and all this is besides that over powering fact that i HATE working on cars!!!! which pretty much trumps the whole thing. Besides if the sad day come where i am FORCED to sell my car i can sell it for more if a reputable shop did all the work rather than some punk kid in his parents garage...

I was just showing you how you can benefit if you made that choice.

So calm down and don't get ants in your pants.

If you HATE working on cars, then your going to HATE owning a swapped one, regardless of who installed it.

Amen. I love working on cars and even I get annoyed at the constant tweaking and maintenance involved with owning a swapped 3s Celica

^^^ Good advice from some of the guys who have or previously had swapped celica's. If you hate working on cars I'd suggest you get a corolla they can take a good beating with little maintenance. smile.gif
