First up, my wife's favorites:

MSW Type 16, Black with red stripe, 18x8:

or

MSW Type 11, 18x8 +35:

And then there's my favorites:

R-1 Racing Hype, 18x7.5 +40. Narrower, not sure about the offset though, but I LOVE this wheel:

or

Excel Ennio, 18x8, +35: *Edit* Just found these in gunmetal, this would be what we'd get, NOT silver.**

Now, my favorite BY FAR is that R-1 Racing Hype wheel. The only drawbacks I have on it are the 7.5" width and the chrome lip. But.....the biggest concern here is the +40 offset on the 7.5" width. I'm almost thinking a spacer is going to be mandatory to keep it from being sucked too far into the fenders.

My wife's favorite is the MSW Type 11.........which is clean, but I just don't like the wide black sections on the spoke bases.

anywho, this is what we're looking at right now. Going to try to order something by the end of the week.

i like the look of the R1 alot better than the others. smile.gif

You only live once...
Agreed, for sure. Like I said, the only concern I have is the tuck from the +40 offset on the 7.5" width, and the chrome lip as opposed to a machined finish.
What is wrong with the wheels you got now? They are 18s also, right?

One is bent beyond reasonable repair and they're out of production. I haven't had those wheels on the car since December of 2006 sadly.
R-1 , lip own3z Joo

Your wife's favorite rim?.........damn good wife.....never heard that one before...
Your wife has great taste. smile.gif

the exel rims look like the ones that i just bought there called flik lex rims they look pretty nice on celica's
The first and third look the best.

i agree, the first and third are deffo the contenders for me
Keep the opinions coming guys. This is being used to settle the debate between us. She says her black and red wheel will be more popular, I say the machined/black wheel will win out.

I'm half tempted to buy those bottom rims for the heck of it. I can get them for under $600 for the set............
the style of those R-1's is getting old and over played IMO. id go with the MSW Type 16

I like the R-1 Racing Hype! It's amazing!

Face your fears, Live your dreams!!!
MSW Type 11, 18x8 +35' here's why.

1. MSW Type 16 - the red lip would have to be an exact match to your paint else it would look out of place.
2. R-1 Racing Hype - not a fan of chrome. The wheel is BEAUTIFUL though.
3. Excel Ennio - black or gunmetal just makes the wheels disappear IMHO.
4. women are always right and you can change, if you have to, i guess. ;0)

I dunno. I just can't shake the "too dark" image.....

The main reason I am leaning hard for the R-1 Hype right now is because the wheel flows with the car. The machined center face and chrome lip would flow along nicely with the chrome in the headlights, and the polished Magnaflow muffler and tip in the back. If you guys haven't seen a machined finished wheel face in person, it's stunning. Pics just don't capture the effect.

Now, the MSW Type 16, admittedly is nice, but I am fearful of it being too dark for the car. If it had a polished lip, I'd probably be a lot more receptive. But there's really no "black" on the car save for the tint. That's my biggest hangup. *Edit* Another big thing for this one is availability. They're not scheduled to be available until 5/6/08. We don't want to wait that long. We're looking for wheels now.

Time to have the wife photoshop this stuff and see what we come up with.

that's the ticket!!!!
I like the Exels and the R1's... I would go with something like the Exels for my car (which is also red).
Well, given that the Type 16's aren't available until May, the R-1 was the one that she and I agreed the most upon (We found and chopped some Tork Champion Hyper Blacks on the car that she liked, but it didn't look right), so I'm ordering those R-1's today with the concession that if she doesn't completely like them on the car that we can order the Type 16's in May when they're available and ditch these....unless i pick up this other 6GC off a friend who's offering it to us. biggrin.gif
Wheels are ordered. And they were NOT one of the 4 from the poll. We ran across another wheel that is VERY similar to a couple of the wheels in the poll.....a cross breed if you will. It's a 18x8, +37 offset, and LIGHT......21lbs light (for an 18 anyway). That's all I'm letting out. We should have them by Mid-Next week, so I'm hoping to have them mounted by the end of next weekend.
I'll bet they are the same wheels that you had before laugh.gif
REALLY like those R-1's... where ya gettin em at?

Fred"...Armed with backbone and busted zoo gates, promising you from the bottom of my harmonica pocket - FOREVER - you will never have another lonely holiday..."
the R-1!!!!!!!!
o love that rim!!
that is the one im going to have on my car!
We didn't order the R-1 Hype. Apparently R-1 is notoriously poor at keeping stock. They're backordered for like 2 months. I REALLY wanted the R-1 too....but to no avail.

Should I let the cat out of the bag??? biggrin.gif There is a pic of the same wheel in a different color here on the site somewhere, but as far as I know no one is running it or the one we bought yet.

Where am I getting what from, my new wheels that I haven't shown yet? Or are you asking about the R-1 Hype wheels? Those I called every shop I could find that showed them on line and no one had them nor anticipated getting them in within a reasonable amount of time.

FYI, they're a 18x7.5 with a +40mm offset. Running the calculators, that's tucking them in 8mm from a 18x8 with a +38 offset. They're going to be deep in the wheel wells......almost to the point of needing spacers I think.
Ok, since no one is playing, here's what we ordered. I found them, she loved them, I dig them.....just gotta see them on the car now.

IPB Image

The only thing I'm going to have to do is paint the wheel hub black so that rust doesn't show through the unused holes......that or cap those holes somehow. Nice looking wheel though from the pics I've found. It's an 18x8 with a +37 offset which is really nice, but the best part is that for an 18" wheel, they weigh in at a paltry 21 lbs. That's barely more than my drag wheels for my trans am weigh that are 15x8 and spun aluminum.
