only advantage to an auto is that you dont have to learn how to drive stick and also it holds boost a lot better instead of leting off to shift

Do you enjoy driving stick?
I personally find no joy in standing on the gas in an auto... I find the thrill in hammering the gas quickshifting then hammering the gas again. I know the ST auto tranny shifts really slow and too low of an rpm for you to get the full potential from the turbo. You do however get the benefit of not letting off the gas and closing the throttle body so you dont lose boost between shifts. Its all about what you want. I think manual is the way to go... but thats just me. If you like auto and you just want it for the enjoyment of driving it then turbo the beast and have a good time. But if you are going for the race aspect and you can quickshift... you will have a better track time with a manual. The auto does not stay in the gear long enough to get your full potential out of the turbo through each gear and it is kinda slow in its shifting. But if you are going to switch it to manual and try to hammer through the gears and miss your gear trying to quickshift, then you arent much better off. What is your favorite thing to drive manual or auto???

Boosting the auto trans is a waste of time and money.
1. it simply cant hold the power, and ends up slipping under boost
2. you loose an insane about of power to the ground over a manual.
Lew boosted his setup and made about 160hp on the automatic, while manual 5sfTes with the same setup are making 200+. Thats a huge difference.

i think you should leave it be till you find a GT in your price range. spending money making an ST fast isint too logical for someone who needs to ask a question like this. save up, get a better car someday that has the performance you do want. need to remember how old these cars are.
im with lagos on this one. on a muscle car with proper modifications an "auto" trans is prolly faster straight line than a "street" manual setup. i say that loosely as it can be proven wrong very very easily.
manual transmissions are much more performance efficient. however... boost+AC+cruise control+auto would make for a descent long trip car.

as far as the auto holding the power and slipping. i have turbo-ed my st auto for 2 years now and i have not yet once had the tranny slip on me at all. i have put down close to 180+ to the wheels with no slip.
now the amount of power loss is more compared to the manual.
now not all auto trannies are like the celicas i have turbo-ed a 93 civic auto and it did not last more then 3 weeks on 5 psi of boost with a little 1.5l ,but that was a Honda auto. this is all i have to say ,and please Lagos dont think i am trying to pick a fight i am just expressing my opinion ,and my experiance.

i would like to chime in too:
my dyno is poor because the turbo blew on the tuner. my car runs fine right now, no slipping, in fact i can spin the wheels

Don't really know why a lot of people bash on the ST.....ST are overall faster than some cars out there...GT owner hating ST engines.......in the bigger picture....it's like supra or mr2 owners hating celicas......all in all...if you have the determination and money...by all means go for it...that is if you really want to go that route...
It all comes down to what you have in the end and if you wan't power....then your ass better beat that 6sec mustang because you're in his league....!!!!mentally!!!! because you went with turbo to be faster than some people..
Otherwise just having that extra power for your convience is the other route....because in the end people out there are faster than you anyways....

I am straddling the fence on this one. it really is not worth the trouble boosting an auto st when you have all these other great optiosn that will go right into our car and get just as good performance (NOT including 3sgte) If i were you i would wait and go 3s BUT you can try the 4a motors. but all in all its all about being happy wiht your decisions and beign unique if its the way you want to go, GO 4 IT!! we all will help if asked

Just boost it and get done with it. If your main reason is to boost to learn and for spirited driving, why not? Thats why I did it. I didn't do it so I can take it to the track and run a 14 sec. I didn't do it to impress my friends. I did it because its what I wanted. I wanted a nice spirited daily driver. Nothing more.

boost the 7afe for fun only. Do not boost it and expect to be fast.
there is too much HP loss and the 7afe auto tranny is geared poorly.
