Topic #56719 12 posts Started by mikecelica
Just done a compression test on my engine today, 94 7afe 105,000miles (170,000km).

Cylinders:
1) 192
2) 191
3) 192
4) 192

Are these good numbers? Im gonna be turboing this car so are these numbers good? (Also passed leak-down test no problem.

Dude those numbers are hella good. Thats good enough to boost.

what you're looking for is consistancy across all 4 cylinders. That seems it's just fine.

FYI the variance can be no more than 14psi from the highest to the lowest.

What compression per cylinder is PERFECT (toyota's original, if it were a brand new engine)?

Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in2grfe Swapped...Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here...A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.@llamaraxing in Instagram is the best way to find me. I hardly log here anymore.
compression tester...all u need to do is screw it into ur spark plug hole and whirl the car over, the gauge should hold the psi , if not then either the gauge is leaking at the spark plug hole or u could have other problems, headgasket, warped head, cracked head...

excellent, now redo the test with a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder. post those numbers, that gives an idea of how well your rings are sealing, but it seems like you're fine.

There is no such thing as a perfect number. As long as your results are even, and you get at least 165psi, then you have perfect compression. The actual numbers are meaningless.

A mechanic did it for me at work. So I put a teaspoon of motor oil into the cylinder where the spark plugs where and then run the test again?
well to be thorough, a wet compression test is a good idea and its good to know how to do one. you're number are great so you're fine and dont need to. but if you were to have one cylinder thats alot lower than the others you put in oil to see if its the rings or valves leaking.
