this is close to the how-to so i'll put the quick version:

1. remove tire
2. remove drum (use caliper bolts)
3. remove bolt that holds brake line to strut
4. use extension to remove spindle bolts (thru holes in spindle)
5. remove backing plate (I just let the whole thing sit on the ground)
6. put disc brake backing plate, new o-ring 90301-63006, and spindle (can use one from drum brakes) on using same method to take off
7. put rotor on, making sure ebrake adjustment hole aligned with the biggest hole in the spindle
8. put caliper mounting bracket on (torque plate?)
9. put caliper on (don't forget the pads 04466-20020)
10. replace brake line with new brake line (ss braided brake line - woohoo!) so get a bucket and newspaper
11. adjust parking brake - try turning the wheel and clicking the gear (screwdriver in, hand up) on the inside with a screwdriver. (hole should be on the bottom) when you can't turn the wheel freely turn the gear backwards (screwdriver in, push hand down) 8 clicks. place rubber plug - 47491-22020 - in hole.
12. repeat 1-11 for both sides (a dur)
13. (the same lines can be used - thanks for letting me know AFTER i broke three bolts ) remove e-brake lines and replace with new lines.
14. remove heatshield (use liquid wrench/pb blaster)
15. remove ebrake line mounting brackets (be veeeerrrryyyyyy careful, i broke mine and had to drill - use liquid wench pb blaster) then unhook lines from equalizer bracket (pulls both lines uniformly)
16. bleed brakes
17. done underneath, now go adjust ebrake cable on the inside (only if not between 4-7 clicks)

I have to change the other how-to to include adjusting the parking brake by clicking the adjustment gear. Coomer hasn't approved the other change i made stating to use a solvent on the ebrake line brackets.

Let me know if you have questions or if anything is out of order .

where'd u get you calipers? do you have the mounting brackets?

to my understanding I need new:

• rotor
• pads
• caliper
• caliper mounting bracket

I gotta read culpable04's thread again. my main question I want to know for a fact is whether or not these brakes will fit under the 15" 2000 celica GT rim. I think after 2001 celica GT used the same 10.8" rotor.

^you should be able to get calipers (using ur 6th gens are cores) from advanced auto.

Sadly the ST e-brake cable is about an inch longer than the Gt cable and has a slightly bigger end piece. I suppose it could be used with a little bit of modification. I finished my drum to disc conversion today but it took me soooo long. The first drum came right off once I used the caliper bolts but the second one had rusted and the threads in the two little holes were toast. I spent about an hour trying to pry it off before I finally took a torch to it . That finally got it off. Now I just need pads. The discs look a lot better and i plan on getting some 7th gen front brakes so it'll stop on a dime.

Stick to slotted and thats it.


BTW, how much did the rear conversion run you. Looking at doing that in April.

~$150 for the rear assemblies.
~$45 brembo blank rotors
~$45 toyota pads
~$12 new rotor plugs and o-rings

I need help! How hard was it to get the old drums off? I'm in the middle of the conversion but the drums are stuck on there. Do you really need the e-brake cable from a gt? From the outside (haven't been able to pry the drums off) the cables look exactly the same.

try taking the bolts out of the calipers and screwing them into the holes on the front of the drum.

im not sure about the cables because i had gt cables connected already.

im also looking to get a bunch of 7th gen steering wheels inexpensive incase anyone wants to convert to one of them.

i used my st ebrake cable. works just fine.
and a lil ot... i had my disc conversion done last summer. but i finally fixed my e-brake a couple days ago. old shoes were worn down to bare metal. it feels nice walking away from my car and not wondering if i put it in 1st gear everytime i park.
