this morning i paid 3.05 for regular unleaded. it cost me $39.65 for 13 gallons. i had reset the trip odometer the last time i filled up. so i figuered out i'm getting about 28 MPG. my commute is 50/50 city and highway.
boo hoo $3.05. I wish gas was 3.05 again. Damn OPEC!!!

anyway you divided the miles on your odo by around 13 to arrive at 28 mpg, right? 28 sounds about right.

Using the miles divided by the gallons/fill-up...I get about 15-17mpg but my drive to work is only 1.6 miles each way and I let the car warm up before driving so I probably burn more gas idling in the driveway than actually driving. I fill up about once every 3 months and gas on base is $3.05 a gal.

unless it's really cold outside, you shouldn't let your car idle for more than 30 sec when you warm it up in the mornings. Ideally you should start driving after 30 seconds, just dont' push the engine until it has warmed up completely. I don't think you'll be running 1/4 miles to work though
^ That's absolutely true. Letting your car idle for long periods of time just wastes gas. We're not driving '53 Buicks or '77 Lincolns (god I remember that car from my early childhood...ugh) that back in the day, you HAD to let warm up before driving off. Treat 'er gingerly first thing driving off and it'll be just fine.
But isn't it true that a engine should be fully warmed up before shutting it down?
