Speedo Stopped Working - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #56971 8 posts Started by 94celicadude
I washed my car yesterday because it was nice and warm,

and after washing it i noticed that the speedometer stopped working, it just sits and reds 0 MPH all the time, the rest of the gauges work perfectly, and i have checked my wires that go to the speed sensor on the outside top side of the gearbox, even cleaned the contacts to see if that was it, still nothing.

has anybody had this problem before?

has any one at all had a problem with their speedometer going out? and if so, how did you fix it?

I've been screwing around with mine for some time. Harness shorted at back of instrument cluster. Instrument cluster needs replacing and I still haven't found the male connector I need. Toyota dealer will sell me nothing less than the ENTIRE dash wire harness. Hope your solution is easier. The only way to access unit is by dropping steering column.

Do you have overlay gauges on your cluster? If you dont glue them down correctly they can kill your cluster.

Start jiggling the wires behind your gauges(i think the one for the speedo is in the connector to the far left if you are looking at your gauges from the front) one by one. You'll find out which one it is, then whallah, do some fixin.

Fuse? i'm not in my pannel right now, but i used to have an old cougar that did that, and it actualy had a fuse go out. It was connected to that and a few other system items... Maybe.

But that was not a 6g, and i'm not in my car righ tnow so~

Good idea but the problem with this idea is that he's going to have to be doing at least 5mph in order to see any fluctuations wink.gif
