i just tried to take my car out of storage... but my car dies right away on me when i try to start it, rpms jsut drop to zero right when it turns on.

i can start it by giving it some gas... but then as soon as i let go, dies again...

then i realized i didn't hear the normal whine of my walbro...

hvn't hearf of too many walbros failing either... which kinda sux for me =/

I have had a car do the same thing, were it would barely start then die. it was a really clogged fuel filter.
I havent really heard of many of them failing either. I'd check the filter, fuel pump relay and wires to the pump.

Another possibility, depending on how your swap was wired, would be the fuel pump relays hi and low settings. Try bridging FP and +B at the diagnostic box and see if that fixes it.

it's not a 3s.. it's a 5sfte so not sure all that applies?

just the bridging of fp and +b applies... assumptions owned me. it's pretty much down to your fuel pump relay(COR), wiring, or the pump itself.

ok.. i don't hear my walbro when i turn the car to the 'on' position.

also, i'm not sure if i'm doing it right, but i used a paper clip, made it straight, n stuck it into FP and +B and when i turned it to 'on' position, i don't hear it.

when i turn my car on. i think i do hear it whine tho.

also i just noticed, i can smell fuel after trying to start it

i just did like a 30sec wideband datalog... so i guess i am running too rich? when i turn car to on, afr is 14.0... drops to 12.4 when i start it and gradually drops to 10.0 while rpms are 0-3000... i guess that explains the gas smell wen i get out?

that sounds like an IAC problem. it's common on 98 Camry's (same engine) to have the same problem. especially after not having driven it for a long time the IAC will get stuck. give it gas to keep it running for a few mins then slowly let it down and see if it idles by itself.

I used to have that same problem on my 5sfe, especially on a warm day. It would just die out unless i held the throttle for a sec, and then it would come to life and run fine.
Oddly enough, I don't think manny ever had that problem since he owned it.

Usually this describes a bad idle air control motor. They get clogged up with carbon. You may be able to clean it.
