I may be looking for a new intake for my 1996 Celica GT if I decide to keep my 5s-fe engine (sort of re-thinking my options). I already have a injen short ram air intake but I am interested in a better setup if there's one out there specifically for the 5sfe...any comments or suggestions??

I can't believe nobody posted on this? I mean, cold air intake vs short ram air intake what's the pros and cons?

because my friend it has been tackled here before... all you need is search for it. There is also a write-up onthe how to section on how to DIY CAI.

well obviuosly the pros for a cold air intake is because its farther away from the motor and closer to some sort of air dam where air will be forced in. The short ram is too close to the motor and will literally be sucking in hot air from the motor. I only see a SRI as a pro for winters. Plus for us minnesotans, but I don't really see a SRI being a plus in the summer, unless you're just after the throtty sound you get.

Because everytime somone brings this question up [again] the arguements start [again]. One side says CAI has obvious advantages but really in our cars there's only one way to make a CAI that wouldn't have several restrictive 90* turns [that basically negate the meager gain from SRI to CAI] and that's to remove the driver's side high beam and run a straight route out of the front of the car [the only bend would be by the TB] - and that looks like ass.
If you feel any gains from doing the traditional CAI setup it's all in your head IMO.
Now 15 people will jump in claiming I'm wrong and the arguement will start anew.

the difference is basically negligible. If you like the sound of the SRI keep it. If you want to custom make your own CAI for bragging rights then do it.

I put a short ram intake on my st and noticed a gain in hp (like maybe 2-3hp) but ya notices a gain but i do not agree with it just sucking in hot air from your motor b/c i just ran mine into my oem air box then cut off the back and one side of it so it opens up the back of the oem box to the cold air rushing in from behind the fender i think it looks really cool and works well and looks oem (once i paint the crome pipe black) and then makes a nice sound and rev on honda's and they say i have a exhaust leek but ya do what ever you want it's just a simple mod anyone can do that just sounds and looks and sometimes gives you a LITTLE more power than your oem setup

seeing as everyone is going to (as usual) argue about the whole 2 hp gains you get from CAI; let me just say that if your really looking for gains, then dont bother with the intake. it's really not worth the pain, hassle, or money IMO. get a ABS heat shield; like 10-20 bucks... looks really cool.

if you really need to count hp by 1&2 horses, than go turbo... you'll get more... then there will be no such thing as CAI and SRI to you... (provided that you attach an inter cooler)

If you refuse to hear boost, and determined to keep it N/A; then do CIA...
