Need Help On School Project - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #57333 10 posts Started by TrdPnoy
Hello everyone I was just wondering if anyone here knows why the GT-FOUR wasn't available here in North America. Please specify any important reason. I am doing a report on it for school.

Thanks
because it was known as an alltrac not a GT-Four

ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582rGRX133 Toyota Mark X 350s
You're referring to the ST205 only correct? It's because the ST185 models sold poorly in North America.
You should do a report on how Toyota was banned from Rallying for a year. Better story there. I guarantee you if Toyota were to bring an Alltrac here in the US it would compete with the Sti's and Evos in sales.

98 Celica gt red- totaled deer94 Celica st black DD (bad weather beater)- totaled deer95 Celica gt silver- chassis sold88 Celica All-Trac (Burned to a crisp)94 Celica gt white (sold)In need of a rust free chassis!!!!
hmm this is gonna be a tough answer, mainly because your in canada and not in the USA. I can give you the american answer and hope it helps.

One of the reason was the gt4 was turbo charged which required toyota to add extra emission devices to comply with california (and other states) standards.

The second reason was, the market for a small sporty car was pretty competitive. You would have to look at the competition at the time. The american mustang was cheap and powerful, the eclipse gsx was already a 4 wheel drive turbocharged car on the market, the integra GSR was dominating the small import scene. This is also the reason why we didn't get the SSIII. Instead toyota decided to put there efforts else where, such as the MR2 turbo and Supra. They also did some market research and the main buyers of the celica was females.

So why would toyota go out and enter a already full market? I could bust out some hardcore business terms and do a SWOT analysis but it might get too confusing. To put in a very very brief solution, toyota did the math. They did not think they would make money to go through all the trouble to get the GT4 into the states. All this was backed up by the previous generations of poor all-trac sales.

I actually wrote a research paper bashing the american car industry in college. smile.gif
