help turbo wont spool - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #57442 23 posts Started by 1994toyotaracer
hi guys i a 5sfte with a ct-26 turbo and the turbo doesnt spool up at all from idle to max rpm it seems to be leaking oil on the compressor side and i have tried messing with the wastegate to see if it was stuck and it moves manualy and still no boost confused.gif frown.gif
if you have the air filter off the turbo, and when the car is running, is the compressor wheel spinning?

if the wheel is spinning but your not getting boost check your intercooler pipes for a leak, i.e. you may have blown off a clamp in a place you cant easily see.

or if the compressor wheel isnt spinning at all... then youve ceased the turbo...

i thought when a turbo stars leaking alot of oil, its your seals. or a blown turbo?

it should still make boost just fine.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
when i take the air filter off the compressor wheel doesnt spin but i can fre-spin it by hand and i dont have any intercooler piping setup yet i know the seals are probally blown but i would think i would still get boost i can move the wastegate rod ok and i did turn the turbo housing a little for clearance issues do you think that may have something to do with it
It sounds like what happens to LewFX's turbo. The turbine on the exhuast side was completely destroyed and gone causing the turbine on the intake side not to spin by itself when the car is running, but still allowed it to spin freely by hand. The cause for this was a lack of oil to the turbo. But check your exhuast side to confirm.
is it possible to take the center section out of the turbine housing without removing it from the exhaust manifold to see if the wheels have damage

you have no intercooler piping in the car?!?!?! if thats true you wont build boost number one and number two thats not too smart to run the car like that

i was told you could boost up to 9 psi anything more you would need a intercooler setup

no youd at least have to have piping running from the turbo to the intake to build boost but that would be stupid because youd be blowing HOT HOT HOT air into your engine....pics would help us help you wink.gif

BOOST GETS YOU LAID!!!!
i am hooking up my intercooler as soon as i fix this boost problem what else
could casuse me not to produce boost when the turbo spins freely

post pics of your setup!

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
unbolted the center section from the compressor to find that the shaft broke so i was wondering if there was a place to but the shaft and a rebuild kit
i think thats what messed up your turbo in the first place, not having the intercooler pipes. you cant booost with out an intercooler, you cant just either put the intercooler pipe and just start boosting you need to tune the car also.pictures will help alot, and some info on your turbo setup to.

In my experience you can run the turbo without an intercooler, but run the very high risk of detonation/lean mixture. (combine this with a ceased wastegate = pistons that look like swiss cheese/broken ring glands) Either way this would damage the engine more so than the turbo.

If anything would lead to the shaft destruction, obviously lack of oil. If that wasn't the case, then physics would lead me to believe lack of a bov would be a much more likely culprit than lack of an intercooler.

You're not kidding man. Not just in this thread either.

Stop wasting time and check the exhaust turbine.

You should have had the turbo rebuilt before you put it on your car, then this wouldn't have happened. It's not because you ran without an IC, but you really need to get your intercooler piping done. Just take a step back and figure out everything you need before you proceed. Then post pictures up for us to see smile.gif.
