Topic #5750 17 posts Started by 1995GT
Hey guys i just bought my celica, its a 1995 GT. One thing I havent figured out though is the red light that is to the left of the steering wheel. What is it for? My car doesnt have an alarm?

its for the alarm

you just dont have the button thingy. remote ya thats it remote.
Does my car have an alarm though? Maybe the previous ownder lost the remote?
I just found out my car has a VIP RS3000 alarm lol. check and see if there is a black box about 4X4 under ur driver side seat. if u do then u have a stock toyota alarm system. im buying the fob right now. to bad i didnt know my car had an alarm before my stereo was stolen.

Will do, I sure hope I have one. >smile.gif>
If i do have an alarm, will it be a long rectangular black carpet covered box under the drivers side seat?
nope. thise box is plastic and has loads of wires on it.

Nope then, no alarm for me:(. But why would I have the red light?
Is there a horn looking thing mounted in the engine bay. Somewhere near the front. Thats usually where the aftermarket alarm horn would be mounted. Its possible that there is an alarm and the owner lost the remote.

Does the light ever come on?
I doubt it was an aftermarket alarm. The previous driver was an old woman. But i still have that damn light
there is no reason for you to have the light if you didnt have the alarm. i would say that she lost the remote.
i have that light too, and i have an alarm w/a remote...so maybe they lost the remote or something.

EDIT: i also cant even find where the alarm is...so it could be the same as yours or something.

Hmm, any suggestions on what to do?
i have the VIP RS3000 its the top of the line toyota one back in the day. and my controle box for it is under my drivers seat. i have no red light near my AC vent. but i have red light near my steering wheel in those little pop out rectagular pieces of plastic.

if you look underneath the dash behind the steering wheel

this means that you have to lay down in the car with your head against the pedals and look up.

there should be a beige colored panel or such that has a blue plug at the top. a couple white plugs, a couple orange plugs and then a couple more white plugs

thats going down from the top. NOW to the left of the beige thing

there should (atleast it is in mine) a black box. not very big, that has some writing on it. it should have a red LED as well. thats part of the factory alarm

if you dont have that then whoever had the car before you installed their own alarm that they bought at a store and when he/she sold the car then they took it out but they didnt take out the light.
When I got my radio installed. The installers looked around but couldnt see an alarm. They said it could be a "dummy bulb", is that possible?
