What's our stock compression... - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #57551 11 posts Started by 6G96GT
How much compression can our 5sfe cyl-head handle as far as pistons and decking are concerned? I can't decide on 9:1, 10:1 or higher?

True

10:1 will be fine if you use 93 octane - I'm not sure but I know I wouldn't run it on 87

stock is 9.5:1

you can get it a bit higher by milling the head for a few more na HP, but if your wanting to turbo down the road, i would go 9:1 or the stock 9.5:1 at the most.

No turbo at for me...so what would you choose for an option then for comp. ratio? I would like to deck the head like you mentioned (not too much though)...

thanks guys!
i would go 10.5:1 max, using 93 octane, minimum.

10.5:1 - is that your max "safe" point? I want the max, but in the "safe" zone. What's after 93 octane? Racing Fuel?

Thanks!

Yeah but you should be fine if your tuned right and only ever use 93. That combination will make a big improvement in power too, especially if you do the cam upgrade and all the other little things you've been talking about. Do it - build an N/A monster man biggrin.gif

its been done.
research the name "jim snoodgrass"
he made ~147whp, with engine management and all, shaved head, valve job, and one cam (exhaust IIRC)
i would expect ~5-10whp more with the newer electronics, and newer motor. (his was a mr2 "5th gen celica equivlent" motor)

one cam, so one was left stock? Do I look him up on google? Thanks for the info!
