Sorry, but Odom was Laker's MVP last previous years. Looking back at the win/loss records from previous years, Lakers win more when Kobe's injured than when Odom's injured. He's like the unsung hero, the glue that puts the triangle offense together. Gasol is basically an upgrade of Odom. Seriously, look at the stats, similar numbers across the board. Odom deferred to Gasol, which explains his lower stats this year, but career wise, very same players.
You're right that Gasol was the Lakers MVP this year. But take away those two players, and Lakers are back at square one. One ball hog who believed that his teams success rode on his shoulders each game. I find it illogical when your "best" player needs to play sub-optimally (score less, do less) in order for you team to be at its best. Not saying that they are better without him, but they play better when he does less. Therefore, Kobe isn't the Lakers best player. Take your pick of either two big men (three if you count Bynum).

I'm a Laker fan, so I don't really care about individualism.. Kobe not as great as Chris Paul, not as great as James... it doesn't matter. As long as he is playing great team basketball with his teammates, then I'm happy. I believe a team needs players that click in order to win. Look at the 2004 Lakers, they're the dream team with not only a Big 3, they have like... Big 4, or 5 if you count Fisher. But since they don't click, they couldn't win basketball games, turn overs left and right, they sucked.
Anyway, It'd be great if the Lakers can beat the Celtics, but even if they lose, I'm happy for them to be at least able to get back in the Final stages again.

ok im with shogun here.... you have to be ignorant... Kobe can win a regular season game single handedly, and so could Jordan. NEITHER of them could CONSISTENTLY win on their own in the playoffs. Did you even watch the game? The celtics were down by 5 in the 3rd and ended up winning by 10. Seems to me that they went on a 15 point overturn to the end of the game. Your right, it was close in the Frst half, but after that, the Celtics started playing like they should. And this was also with PJ Brown, Posey, and Cassell playing most of the 3rd and some of the 4th. Now this, is a bad sign for the Lakers. Celtics were in foul trouble for a lot of the game, and the bench came through. I don't see how this is a bad sign for the Celtics. All i know is that the Celtics are up one, and its going to be a long, hard fought series.

Despite how the Lakers played (good or at their best), Boston's mediocre or average will still be better, as indicated by the 2nd half. Defense wins over offense, and the Lakers are an offensive-minded club.
Boston isn't going to roll over the Lakers, but they took the Lakers best(?) punch and still won. Which in my mind, means they got spanked in the fanny!
Game two will decide who will win, if Boston wins by 10 or more again, then yeah, it's over. Celtics in 7 (or less).

The Celtics went on a crazy shooting spree in the 3rd quarter, in which I think has a lot to do with the whole Pierce's incident which made the entire Celtics squad more focus. At the same time, seems like since Pierce's exit, the Lakers lost their focus on the D.
Then in the 4th quarter, the Celtics refined their D and contained Kobe.
All in all, it was a very interesting game. It's definitely not like the last couple years' boring finals.

The lakers will never shoot that poorly again the could not throw a beach ball in the ocean in game 1, its funny bcuz if Doc had 2 brains cells 2 rub together he would post and repsot KG EVERY SInGLE POSSESION, and this would be a short series but since Paul has 2 big of an ego he wont let them, do that. PP is the celtics gift that got them to the final and the curse that end it there. End of story.

Lakers again did their best against the Celtics and came up short. And to those who say the Lakers could have STOLEN this game, that is exactly the point. They were never meant to win it, if they had, it would have been considered an upset. Celtics took the Lakers best punch (in my opinion) in the 4th quarter and still held on to win. Also, the Lakers shot well this game and still lost. So despite scoring more points and at a higher %, it wasn't good enough.
I doubt the Lakers will make it to game 7 now...

The Lakers defended like CRAP today. Very sloppy defending.
They didn't shoot well at all in 2nd, 3rd, and half of 4th until 5 or 6 minutes till the end of the game.
Kobe didn't do much penetrations until the 4th quarter, mostly due to the Celtics' defense got loosen up in 4th.
But the main reason why the Lakers were down by 24 was their crappy defense today.

Paul Pierce.
The Celtics leading scorer for the last 8 years or so and now finally has some great tallent around him and he's only gotten better. Put all the focus on KG, Pierce will light it up.
The Celitic bench is much better than the Lakers, Kobe will win a few games for them but the Cs have the series.
