Okay, so my PS pump was installed by it's previous owner Now the problem here is that it's been leaking.

I just keep filling it up, but people are bitching about it; so it needs to get fixed.

I got ahold of the previous owner; and some mention of "The standard washers are not installed, its just 2 grounding connections being used for washers" was mentioned. WTF?!

So i ask what washer, and he replys "IDK"

now i'm looking at this happy blue-print (thanks to much SEARCH function You guys would be astonished how much you can learn using it )



Now my photoshop wont save when i try to highlight the part, but you see that big black diamond? Says "Gasket" next to it? I think this is where the problem could be.

My question is this Is there anywhere else that "2 washers" go; or could go, that would cause a leak (in the power steering fluid) when improperly installed? Rather it be farther down the line or farther up, Is there any other place i could expect to be leaking due to these "washers"?

Also, I cannot find this gasket from toyota... they have no idea what i'm talking about... Any idea's on what to use to close this thing off?

(i'm thinking Copper washers would flex into place about right; while maintaining the stregnth to not break or bend...)

Probably wouldnt hurt to do all seals seeing as this dude obviously didnt have a clue.... Grounding connectors as washers? For sealing pressurized fluid?

Washers could be on any of those bolts. I'd lay $ it's the washers on the two long bolts labled 440 and 400. But then again that other one w/the black diamond does attach an actual hose, so you might be right. Clean off the pump housing as best as possible and then run it, see where it's leaking from.

Maybe pull all three bolts out and see if you can find the Mysterious Grounding Connections and use RTV as a temporary fix when you put the bolts back in?

Na, The 440 & 400 just hold the pump itself to the bottom of the engine. Otherwise would be a good bet. No fluid flows there.

It could be on some of the other hoses, but it looks like those ring clamps are placed there, therefore a washer would be a waste. ALso, i know all those hoses there are rubber-ish. (don't know the exact DNA strand compound, but there' rubber-ish )

What are you going on about RTV? I got my boss to let me slide till the weekend; and me and one good friend will probably end up with the task, (he knows zero about celicas too ) but he taught me alot about cars when i was younger.

I was thinkin of pullin that bolt out of the presure line, taking it down to Ace hardware or something, and finding something that would deff connect, and toping it off with some of that black super hard silicone tar schett i use on auto glass. I figure Just a dap on the outer flat of the washer should ensure that perfect seal.

but if i dont find theese infamous grounding connections there on that high pressure line, then DEFF going on a hunt for them till i find em.

I'm gunna towel dry everything before heading over to my buddy's place (witch ever buddy i can find first honnestly ) but that way i'd have a double check by following the fluid leak.

The part nr. of the gasket that you mean in the first post is 44327-30030 according to the EPC. That's for the 94-95 models, I don't know if it's different in later years.

That gasket is basically 2 metal crush washers joined together. It's probably what they're talking about.

You don't want to use any silicone on it, there's somewhere north of 1,000 PSI in the high pressure side. It will blow that stuff out.
Use the right gasket.

Just FYI, depending what he replaced the pump with [used, or even worse, his own rebuild], it could also be the pump shaft seal, rear seal, high pressure line, or one of the low pressure ones.
You might want to do some investigating as to what exactly is leaking first.

That gasket is probably the same for any S [or MZ] pwr steering pump from 86 to 06. If the P# is different, it will probably work anyways.
Just FYI.

This is why I'm not always a big fan of people fixing their own cars.
So many times people half ass things, either because they're cheap, they don't care, or they just don't know any better.
And then when they sell it, it's "engine rebuilt 10,000 miles ago", or "brakes just done", yet they neglect to mention that they did all the work, it was their first time, and it's only going to last another 5,000 miles.

I know there are many of you that do know what you're doing, or are capable of learning and doing it right. I started by working on my own car too. The problem is, there's just too many idiots out there.

In all fairness, there are mechanics and shops that are morons too, I just wanted to vent.

No problem man. Just helping out, hope it's this gasket that's leaking. Just FYI: it's a bitch to get to it on the 3S-GE/3S-GTE engine, but with the 7A-FE you probably have more space.

@Altraccman78: I know what talking about. My swap was the first I did, but I used the BGB on the side, and only used OEM parts or better. And some mechanics really suck, others are great.

Oops. forgot about the 5S-FE, hehe, here in Holland we've only got the AT200, ST202 and ST205. Sorry 'bout that Good luck with the gasket change.
