Need spring/strut recommendation - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #58406 9 posts Started by shaunrichard
I just installed 25 mm spacers on my wheels, 15" x 6.5" with 38 mm offset. I love the look, but now the rear wheels occasionally rub the fenders, particularly if I hit a dip or hump with a little too much velocity. tongue.gif My springs and struts are all original and I have 124,000+ miles on my '97 convertible. First, would new suspension components help tighten things up enough to minimize and perhaps eliminate the rubbing? Second, what should I get? At one point, I was going to lower it with Tein S-Techs and KYB GR2's, but now, obviously, the lowering would be ill-advised. So are there good non-lowering performance springs that I can put on with the KYB struts? Thanks for the help.

oh, well now i know 25 is too much for me.

you probably needed 20 mm . Lowering the car will make it worst. you will probably need to roll in your fenders...

tightening will makeit happen less frequent, but it will still happen. do you mind telling where you got themm

Here they are, $69.95/pr:

I also found a bunch on ebay of varying sizes.

So, by "rolling in" my fenders, you mean essentially crimping that lip on the inside of the fender so that it is flat against the inner wall? I might opt for that if it is necessary, but I want to replace the suspension anyway. Even if it is only minimized, that's better. Plus, I just want a stiffer feel. Maybe it will finally provide me with the incentive to slow down. wink.gif

Bring it to a shop to have it professionally done.

Good idea. A lot of potential for screw up there!

Rolling fenders is super easy, just have to go slow.
you shouldn't be running spacers that are 25mm...thats way huge and potentially unsafe.
drop it down to a 16mm or so and you should be fine. Make sure the spacers are also hub centric and you should be good to go.

proper offset wheels > spacers

Not disputing, but asking for clarification: what exactly would make the 25's unsafe?

probably too long, but hey i have a 45 offset in my wheel, so i can probably try 20 mm spacers, ill just have to measure with a ruler.

About rolling the fenders, somebody here did it at home. just dont recall who...
