A bunch of phones have said to be an iPhone killer, but never are. There are rumors of the 3G iPhone in the imminent future as well as the 2.0 upgrade in June for the current one. The Blackberry Curve has been out awhile now and IMO really doesn't touch the iPhone. It's a different beast completely, and it's not "hot" at all. If your looking for something hot you have to go with a sleek touchscreen.

RIM has a bunch of new, sleeker Blackberries on the way out; the "Bold" being one of them. An iPhone wanna be "Thunder" that will be out probably 6 months. But right now I think the hottest phone could be Sprint's Samsung Instinct, and maybe the HTC Diamond. But even the Instinct is just an iPhone clone, so to be perfectly honest, I think the iPhone, even with it's lacking of video camera & 3G is still the hottest.

I have an iPhone and love it. Awaiting 2.0 in June that supports 3rd party apps. I would def. stay away from anything Motorola as they're a sinking ship. I think it also depends on your carrier. Verizon hasn't got much that's too hot IMO. The Voyager is alright, the Glyde is alright too, but they don't do much for me that the iPhone isn't already doing. Sprint has the Touch & Mogul both by HTC which look pretty good. AT&T has a long list of Blackberries and the Samsung Blackjack, LG Vu, & Samsung Access.

Kinda what supersprynt said... basically, it depends on the carrier. Who's your carrier, and are you still in a contract?

If/when you narrow down a few models you're looking at, cnet.com is a GREAT review site to look to as a resource. They test electronics out themselves and do write ups on it, and there are user reviews as well.

I'm starting to prefer Gizmodo/Engadget these days. Cnet has always been great, but they're getting way to corporate. CBS just bought them.

I think I read the other day that theres a newer curve type phone coming out then whats out.

Anyways i think phones are all about preference. I had a touch screen but hated it and wont go back to one. I have a Sidekick Slide and though its not the best phone ever The sidekick is what i always go back to.

currently using a sony ericsson P1i and imo is a great phone! i work for cellular warranty repairs so i've gone through many phones and this is, imo, better than an iPhone and definitely better than any blackberry. im typing on it as we speak smile.gif

i'm waiting on Microsofts and Sony Ericssons X1 XPERIA with windows media 6.2 to release in Q3 2008.. basically a partnership device and Microsofts answer to compete with Apple.
i'll stop here, i get carried away when it comes to these gadgets.. biggrin.gif

That's good info, thanks for the tip. I've always looked to Cnet for ratings on stuff like this; I'm looking for a new phone myself, in fact (but I'm on Verizon and I agree, nothing really great)

iPhone. Unless you don't like the best web browser, easiest typing, easiest phone/computer integration, best free games (even more so when 2.0 comes out), highest quality device—or if you have sprint.

If you have the option of a network than runs an iPhone, I would get one. I'm stuck with spring for the next 4 months... then I'm gone to the (ick) land of AT&T

Downsides to iPhone:
No the smallest phone (although slim)
Expensive
only on AT&T legitimately (although can be hacked to work on a lot of other carriers)

Nokia N70 FTW biggrin.gif

but thinking of buying the N90:

320hp @ 6300rpm and 420Nm @ 3250rpm. yay!My ST205 WRC buildthread
well lets see..... i have the iphone. it may have came handicapped out of the box, but after "opening up the software" so to speak, on top of the usual features, it can

- record video w/sound (can upload directly to youtube or send in an email)
- full offline dictionary and excyclopedia (also can connect to wikipedia online); has option where it verbally says some words
- send pics and mp3's
- download music and video from a p2p network
- view streaming music, photos, video and webcam thats on my computer from anywhere theres a signal
- over 40 games, some utilizing the accelerometer. also an NES and PS emulator
- download video from youtube or safari and save it
- play virtual instruments (guitar, drums, piano, etc)
- listen to streaming radio stations
- play your music and a program will download the lyrics and play it at the same time (usually in sync)
- convert any mp3 into a ringtone
- has a digital level (tool for making pictures straight, etc)
- program for tracking shipments from USPS, UPS, or fedex
- unit converter for almost everything measurable
- mandarin character converter. draw characters on the screen and send it asian style!
- not to mention other utilities that put regular phones to shame

there is no better phone out there. you can try to prove me wrong, but you won't. some helio guy tried to pitch their "iphone killer" at me in front of a bunch of people. after showing them my phone, nobody wanted a helio. someone that was about to sign up with them even left, hahahaha.

^^^

In your opinion.

I'm afraid there are far better phones for what i want. I use the camera a lot and the Iphone camera is terrible.

The thing with Apple products is this; it's easy to make improvements to something if you can make it far more expensive than the competition!

That company is far more about more clever marketing than it is clever design.

you're totally right about other phones having better resolution. heck, my gf's lg shine has 2mp (compared to the iphone's 1mp) which is really good and even thats pretty low compared to the next generation of phones coming out. im satisfied with what it came with. a little camera resolution is worth the sacrifice if i can have all the other features. Plus i dont think its that bad...

if i frequently took pictures i would use my digital camera. i dont think there is any phone that can substitute a good digital camera. and if there was, i doubt it would do everything the jesus phone would do biggrin.gif
personally looking into the Nokia N95, mostly for the camera. 3.2 Mp with zies optics
you mean 5MP with zeiss smile.gif
