Engine trouble; wont start - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #58840 5 posts Started by creis
Well I finaly figured out my cars electrical problems (would not do anything no spark at first then no crack at all, found a few lose connections in the main fuse box that were to blame as well as my alarm wiring that was causing it to disable the ignition, and a few bad relays frown.gif ) anyway now I can get it to crack spark and spray fuel, but it still will not start, what it does do when trying to start it; cracks and every so often there is the sound of a serious pressue thump a few in a row and it sounds normal for a while again. its a cycle but not always the same amount of time when it does it. I don't know whats going on but all I can think of it being is a timing issue valves not working in sync with the rest of it so no air and a pressue build up at the wrong point although I cant belive that as I did not mess with the timing of the new engin at all.

Any thoughts, I'm so close to getting this mess done I can taste it.
Are the cams in the right position? Was the motor TDC?

TDC? the cams are in the right place as far as I know will check, I did not swap them or the timing belt. and the motor was in running condition when I bought it, fully tested and compression was good.

edit: TDC or Top Dead Center, pretty sure it was not but should not matter as nothing mechanicly changed on the motor, I swap the distributar but I'm positive its in correctly and in the exact pos the old one came out.

cause:
Timing was ahead 5 degrees, Maf was connected to a switch on the intake manifold not the manifold directly (thus way to much fuel,) and my manual listed the fireing order backwards (4, 3, 2, 1 -[dist] rather then 1, 2, 3, 4 -[dist])
yeah i was going to suggest your ignigion timing may be 180 degrees off. i tend to do that a lot lol
