car looks really nice! biggrin.gif

no money = no modsno mods = no speedno speed = no ticketsno tickets = more moneymore money = more mods...
car looks good, i remeber when i had my old gts, i had it modded pretty well, it was a real quick na. Only things i didn't like about the 00 gts, horrible shift gates, bad tranny, motor was nice, it got me everywhere, until i blew it:(*
I've heard mixed things....pretty much you need to replace the lift bolts before 60k,not redline it,and only hit lift when the engine is fully warm. I try to treat it like a turbo and I've spanked a lot of expensive cars that I thought would have been faster including Porsches....the only bad part about having a 7th gen is the 7th gen forums, they are all self righteous dinks over there who think they know everything. 6gc is way more helpful and considering I still technically own one (eventhough I am not driving it ATM) I like being here. tongue.gif
congrats on a 7th gen, i have 3 of them myself. one is making 600HP to the crank. good source of info is at www.newcelica.org

actually, the first series lift bolts( in the 00) had a recall on them, so i would change them out soon, next lift bolts maintaince is required every 15-30k, u can hit lift after the second bar on the temp gauge, but wait till its fully warmed up, all in all its a fun little car, good gas milage, and relaiblity, just don't miss shift, the 00 had very tight shift gates, 03+ are probally the best since they bumped the rev limiter up to 8200 again, but urs can go to 8400, thats what makes the 00 the fastest year, hows ur landing lift skills?

Couple of questions: (bold area in quote denotes area of question)

1) i know yamaha made the motor for the gts, and i know the 3sgte needs a tune up every 30k miles, but replacing the lift bolts every 30k seems like a big ordeal. (grant it i dont own one im just curious about it, where are the lift bolts? etc?)
2) what happens if u hit lift (which im assuming means the VVTI kicks in b4 its fully warm? (i presume some kind of damage or un needed wear, im looking for more specifics)
3) What does the term "landing lift" mean? (u used it above)

edit: sorry to jack your thread

The motor is a 2zzge,I can keep lift going thru several gears and pretty much my tranny will not let me mis-shift at all...it actually locks my gears behind me so I can't shift into them at high rpms...dunno how or why. I bought new lift bolts and it's pretty easy, just requires taking the valve cover off.The old bolts are fully threaded the new ones look like bullets with a clean end that has no thread at the bottom.

And it's vvtL-i

you don't want to TRY to lift before it's warmed up because it will bump the gov. and the motor will top out as if redline was only 6k instead of 8,400. I accidentally did it once.

!.) lifts bolts are adjascent at the top of the 2zz's valvetrain, located on the top of the camshafts. more or less in the center groves of them.

2.) When you hit lift, it locks the cams in a way, i can't explain it as good, and engages a higher lift in the valves, kinda like a vtec, mivec thing

3.)Landing lift is simple, 1-2nd gear is the hardest for most people since u either have to chirp or slip the clutch, cause it wasn't acutally made to land at 6k, every other gear is, landing lift keeps you in the powerband of the 2zz's goodness, thats y the gts is a very quick car with light mods, and a good driver, it can hand/beat alot of things

Thanks, sorry for borrowing your thread.

thought I was actually gonna lose to a Type-R last night til my lift kicked in and I blew his doors off...haha...It's true what the 7th gen dudes say...LiFT is like a DRUG!

lift is a great thing, but boost is the real drug
