not a big difference in MPG at all actually, assuming both are mated to a 5spd manual trans then the 4afe would get on average 1-2 mpg better.
however the 4afe is a pretty anemic engine at any rpm, but especially down low in situations such as easing away from a stop or going up a hill without downshifting. the 7afe usually gets better real world MPG if you're used to having some torque. you'll find yourself revving the 4afe higher or downshifting more to get a satisfying amount of torque than you would with the 7afe.
i get 35 or better on the highway and 28-30 commuting stop and go 26 miles a day 5 days a week stop and go.
