Topic #59007 14 posts Started by daazndood
hey guys. i measured the stock rims and they are actually 16 inches in diameter. whats up with that?i wondered why my aftermarket 17s didnt look much bigger then realized its only 1 inch bigger.
are you sure they are the stock 6th gen GT wheels you had on?

^^^ those are 15" wheels

These are 16" wheels (from a 7th gen):

There's a fairly good difference in size that you can see.

edit: ok, not a huge difference, but you get the point biggrin.gif.

i know but why is it 16 when measured? is that just the way it is?
The inside of my driver's doorwell has all the measurements/specifications for 15". Although it does mention 16's in there too, it's less detailed. So pointing towards 15" being the standard (JDM celica here). Mine came with aftermarket wheels though so yeah...

When you measure the diameter as you did, you are measuring the diameter of the lip of the rim. The true diameter is the area that the tire is affixed to. The lip is approximately 1/2" so it results in an overall 1" added to what is considered the true diameter.
