Did I kill the engine??? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #59298 15 posts Started by PHLCELICA
At around 6pm or so I went to put a little oil in the engine than around 11pm the car started acting funny like it wanted to cut off. I pop the hood and realize I left the oil cap off. I top off the oil and than put the oil cap BACK ON. I went to start it and the knocking started.... Did the rod go because I forgot to put the oil cap back on?

BTW... Looking for a 3sgte, anyone around philly have one?

how low were you on oil?
if you were REALLY low, then all the oil slpattered out of the filler cap and you starved your engine to death.
if you were less than a quart low, then your engine was most likely close to dying and you forgetting the cap had no effect on its death

but nonetheless your engine is going.

before this happened, did you notice it knocking a few times when you start the car, and then it goes away after your oil light goes out?

Yeah it was down to almost nothing basically a drop on the drip stick. Also the car never knocked when I started it. Damn another motor. Any suggestions besides a 3SGTE?

-Mikemjcoury@gmail.comTeam Reynolds StyleCelica BlogCelica WikiIt will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work.
The car is possessd!!!! I turned it on this morning to take it to the garage and it was knocking slightly. 3 miles later and a minute from the garage the motor stops tapping and is running smoother than ever now.

Is this even explainable????

Lagos doesn't want to give up the 3sgte LoL...

Took the car to the garage they took off the oil pan and told me everything looks fine internally. I'll take his word for it, hasn't failed me yet. biggrin.gif

(The motor lives)

If you want to, you can bring the car out to a local meet or something and I can have a listen to it for you and tell you what I think. Trying to guess these things over the next is next to impossible.

Well the meet that was down at the stadium 2morrow got cancelled. So I'll keep an eye out for the next one close by.

IMO I dont think you could throw enough oil out the top (without it being very obvious like splashed on the windsheld and smoke dumping out the bay, your talking like 4 quarts of oil splashing around the bay and burning on the exhaust.) to cause the motor harm, unless you were really ridding it hard and not paying attention. could have been anything making the knocking sound but I would do as stephen_lee and let it sit overnight then have someone else start the car while your ear is on the motor listening, if it knocks have it checked agian, if not keep an eye on it and hope for the best.
Had someone start the car for me and I popped the hood and listened and I just heard the typical knocking of a Toyota motor. I'm thinking something more internal like the oil pump but still not to sure... I appreciate all the quick responses and will keep you guys updated.
