At last, i can hold drinks AND change gear! - 6G Celicas Forums

Thanks to njccmd2002 HERE

I bought a tray/cupholder thing from ebay.

Fitted it today and it fits really well!

It's a bit plasticky, but then it is made from plastic smile.gif

Looks pretty good fitted, the front of the trays have a kind of rubberized finish, not bad at all.

and just in case you're wondering about the guy on the right there, my lil sister made him for me biggrin.gif She's pretty random.

Looking good, I do agree with you abt the plasticy part..

i like the idea of it, but the practicality wouldn't suit me, i don't use a remote with my head unit, since i'm only 2 ft away, and i wouldn't want condensation to drip down. it does look clean though. if i used my remote, i would put the cup holders below the stereo to save from water damage.

Man your sister is talented. I'd buy a one - she should start a business with them. Little gothy ones would certainly appeal to a buuuunch of girls I know [Thank God for Goth Girls.] wink.gif

x2 on the placement below the radio for it's sake [think it would look better too but that's personal pref's]. Cold drinks will probably be the worst with the sweat and all that - do they lock in place like our stock ones do [for the first couple of years anyway]?
Edit - Woah - interesting horn switch placement.

Yeah, i am going to switch it over. I took it back out to paint the front.

I need to drill some new holes in the cage to fit my head unit into the bottom slot.

Welcome to the cupholder club!

But i put mine under the unit.

Why are you painting the front? Is it THAT bad? Btw, what does the top slot say?

No, it's actually pretty good, rubberized finish.

I'd just prefer it in gunmetal to match a few other parts.

The top slot says 'FREE BOX' for some reason kindasad.gif

It's pretty good.

It will hold bottle, cans, glasses securely. The 2 parts you see at the back of each cup holder is spring loaded so it grips the drink.

It's not massively strong but it will do it's job fine.

i dont get the problem with the stock ones, with them where you have them its either going to block the heater controls or the head unit. I think its great in the stock position. If you have two cans or something in there you have to have your arm a little higher to change, but meh big deal. I have a shorter shifter too.

I was actually thinking of doing something like this. Or put the cup holder right next to the main door speaker. It stays out of the way and easy access unless your a big guy.
you should drink and drive

For those in the States, there's also this one:

I'd have bought it myself, but I think the UK one is cooler looking. And besides, it has "free box" printed on the top shelf. How can you go wrong with that? biggrin.gif

All the old school Toyota Trucks have the cup holders setup this way. It's awesome because the vent can help keeping the drink cool smile.gif

-TomazWSwww.tomazws.com
My '92 4Runner had that, and I LOVED it. Keeps hot drinks hot in the winter, cold drinks cold in the summer. Condensation/dripping was never an issue for me, it really didn't happen much and when it did, it just dripped straight down, never on the radio. When I got my Celica and saw where they put the cup holders, I never could understand why they did that and didn't do it the way it was in the 4Runner.

That's a pretty sweet drink holder; but how do you access the radio with your big can of beer in the way?

Don't drink and drive. wink.gif

^ remote?

I got a 1/2 dinn sit\ze cut holder (basicly the same as that but without the top tray) from pull-a-part (stock on a geo prizm i think it was. anyway was playing with it when installing my radio last night, had to make a custom bracket as I lost my stock radio side brackets so I was looking at where I wanted it (top/bot ect,) ended up not putting it in yet but the location is pretty good. mine would have covered the climate controll rather then the radio as condensation would worry me.

Don't drink and drive. [x2]
