i am officially annoying the neighbours - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #59609 18 posts Started by axelrduvirage
spent the day installing my sub and amp that i bought in '07. skinned 2 knuckles, got slightly sunburned and dehydrated (not used to the heat yet). haven't "nailed" everything down yet. worked first try. no blown fuses, no showers of sparks, no eardrum-piercing feedback, just a nice thump from the back end of the CeliPig. not too loud, not too boomy. nice and tight. here are a few snaps.

sorry for the soft focus. i was loosing light and had a hard time keeping the cam still.
PS i could not have done it without the info found on this site. all the related posts on this forum gave me the knowledge to tackle the project in the first place. i would also like to thank Griffgirl for the electrical schematics she made available to us. they are a bee-otche to read but all the info is there once you've figured it out. it was "easy" to find a wire that is only on when the radio\player is on. thanks miche.

How come your spare tire deosnt stick out of your trunk, it looks flat, mine is right in the middle of the trunk and makes it hard to put subs on.

mine is also sunken in. the reason being is mikecelica must have a full size spare where we (me and 95st-celica) have a donut. i like the concept of a full size spare but don't like bulge.

anywho back on topic....

nice subs. i remember when i first got mine installed i loved it. now i've decided not to drive a car very long without putting a sub in it. how much did the whole set up run you? i'm looking to get a sub and amp for my pickup

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
Nice car, I hope you don't plan on leaving that ugly mess of wire like that!

actually i like spaghetti...seriously, i haven't decided whether to install the sub flat or at a more show-off angle. >>see new pics>>. yes, the wires need to be cleaned up.

@mikecelica...donut spare... i threw it out and filled the well with expanding foam then trimmed to fit. gives me a nice "floor" to put the decking and carpet. i have a CAA membership if ever i get a flat.

@goferris...bought the sub/amp combo from XSCARGO online (canada) after researching the price/quality of Visonik products. i paid 150$ + shipping for the combo and 30$ for the installation kit. it was a bit of a gamble not being able to listen to it before purchase but i am TOTALLY satisfied. good entry-level product.

That black thing on top of ur roof in pic 1&2 is that an antenna cause i wanna get a low profile one thumbsup.gif

only celicas to get the spare poping into the truck would be the GT-four because the rear dif is in the way. unless a full size spare was an option and came with the bulge too but sounds weird to me.

congrats on the subs, what amp is that looks a little small for 2 12" subs? why not cut into that foam fill and place your amp under there to hid it and the wires?

old school SIRIUS satellite antenna. newer ones are lower profile. i like it since it's rounded like the rest of the car.

@creis...it's sufficiently powerful. and BTW they are 10" subs. the amp is "rated" at 400W. i built a wedge yesterday and will mount the sub and amp soon. would not make sense to hide the amp. have to keep it well ventilated or it'll shut down (thermal protection circuit).

@celicaST_CALI...i guess i'm busted. 110% caffeine junkie.

Looks good:)

You just got to be careful about how "showy off" you want your subs, cause once people notice them, they will smash your glass and grab you speakers and amp... I always turn my system practically like a block away from home and work, just so people dont make a mental note of... "oh ya the blue celi has some nice subs in it, and its always parked over there"

I have cautionary tales to tell but i wont. I give you props on doing it yourself!! Nicely done

thanks for the "heads up!" i shut it down before i get to the neighbourhood too, but for different reasons biggrin.gif . not too much smash and grab here in the 'burbs but i tinted the rear glass and "always" lock my car at night. the dog is my daytime alarm system. underground, secure parking at work and i always pay my insurance bill...just in case!!!

i built the wedge yesterday, painted it and installed it today. it's just too late for pics. i have a temporary solution for strapping it down...please stay tuned tomorrow for the next episode in "Ray's Not Acting His Age" Season 3.

Nice sub enclosure thumbsup.gif now go drown out some people laugh.gif

frown.gif my donut pops out frown.gif

im no gt4 frown.gif

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
well, I'm about 90% done. i mounted the enclosure and the amp on the wedge. i also tucked away the cables. it's being held down by cargo straps threaded through the shock mount towers. very "Home Hardware" but better that hitting me in the back of the head if i screw up and run into something or get rear-ended.

needs a good vacuuming now, tidy up the cables and secure the whole thing to the floor. i would eventually like to make it removable with quick connectors and handles.>

that looks awesome now!!!!!

you must not have to worry about theft in your area... i won't ever mount anything where people can see it again, had an entire system jacked outta my neon back in the day cuz i surface mounted my 6x9s. i'd lay it level and leave the hatch cover. it does look nice though provided you are in a safe area.
