Poll: Nikon D60, D80 or Canon Digital Rebel XSi - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm about to finally upgrade to a DSLR from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7, leaning towards the D60, but would like your opinions of the best "budget" (under $1k) Digital SLR.

Thanks.

Olympus e-510 10MP. I got the body, two lenses (14mm-42mm and 40mm-150mm) the case, and all of the accessories for 800 after tax.

love the canon, me and my dad are each getting one very soon so ill let you know how it is
I personally prefer the Canons, really good quality for a reasonable price. And you'll already have a lens that comes w/ the body so you can use that to get used to the dslr, then when ready, upgrade!

I may be a bit biased though wink.gif

Build quality for Nikon and Canon is pretty similar. You can't go wrong with either brand. That said, I think Canon lenses are better, so I voted XSI.

New XSi, or a used 30d.

The Nikon D40 would be a good choice too, low price and better picture quality then most more expensive cams, especially extreme low noise. I got one with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses and i'm very happy with it. Here are some pics i made with the D40 and the 55-200mm lens, most pics with 200mm.
off to the store to take random pics with various dslrs... prolly gonna go with the xsi... going, taking pics, coming back and analyzing them, then go back for purchase. too bad it's AAFES though, their selection typically sux, and i'm too impatient to buy one online.

D60 rocks my socks. Ive had one for about 2 months, love it to bits, great size for holding not bulky at all, easy to use. Just 1 thing i wasnt happy with was that it doesnt do automatic bracketing.. Still easily won my vote!
My father has the aforementioned 510, but I vastly prefer the various Canons of me and my photobuddies, and the 'XSi' is by all reports everything that my 'XTi' is....but better

Good price!

The kit lens is a lot better than previous kit lenses.
