TRD shift knob - 6G Celicas Forums

it sounds like a knock off. if it's a genuine TRD knob it would be pre-threaded to fit the shifter.
Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
Yeah the guy said it was brand new yet in came in a baggy. And there are no threads.
i hope you didn't pay a grip for it. cuz it sounds like its a fake.
ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.
I paid i think $70.00 dont worry im fighting it untill i get my money back.
WHAT????? I paid 25 shipped for my trd knob from kinwaymotorsports. And its the genuin ball knob.

So the seller on ebay was actually a nice guy. He lives in california andhe shipped t from japan..he is a new seller and one other person also had the same problem that bought one from him. Once he gives me a refund i think i might just buy the TRD ball shift knob. Anyone has pics of it in there car?

here's my set up and i'm very pleased with it. had i gone with the other style of TRD knob i woulda got a boot from vincent_doggy

Its hard to tell from the pic..does the ball knob sit flush with the shift boot? It looks like soe of the metal shifter is still there.
on mine it does not. i have a cheap aftermarket boot off ebay (one of my fav cheap mods though). the retainer clip that was on there was broken when i tried to put my cheap knob on there. also i have a short shifter (7th gen ebay special) and it's chromed. with the ball type i think it looks better that way. like i said though if i got the other style trd it wouldn't look good at all.
that's just my opinion though

inside you are supposed to have a long white tube that is pre-threaded...you take you old one off by unscrewing it and popping that little white plastic clip off with a screw driver.
$70 is VERY expensive...I got a wicked nice stitched one for $45 from a dude that worked at Toyota and used to have a Celica

As nice as the $70 leather knob is, I think I'm a bigger fan of their duracon knob.

Anyone know the part number on this knob?

Yeah the one i got was deffinitly a fake. It was not leather and it had a kind of chemical smell, and it wasnt threaded at all.

my trd knob doesnt have a thread either but it comes in a genuine TRD packaging. its the leather one. Whats the deal? Do I have to remove the plastic or does it thread itself?

I'm waiting for a reply from the seller but honestly I think the threading is all the way up in the shift knob. Haven't put on mine yet, will know for sure soon.

the threads are all the way inside, it doesn't have threads at the begining, can you imagine how much you would have to turn it to get it at a desirable level if that was teh case ?
try it on, it should screw right on.

Right on, will hopefully know today if my tranny swap is completed. Thanks!

with your gear stick boot (the cloth around the gear stick) there is a little white plastic ring this is used to hold the boot up, you'll have to remove the ring, as the TRD knob has thread at the very top since its longer then the standard one it has to sit lower, removing the ring will allow the TRD knob to reach the thread.
I hope that helps

I tried it today, it fits. looks like the trd knob sits lower almost like a short shifter.

what about putting it on a lathe and cutting a new slot for the ring.
