One of my mates is moving to America for 6 months and she is having a "American" fancy dress party.

I was hoping someone could help me decide what to wear. This is not meant to be offensive or anything. My gf took my original idea of wearing red white and blue.

Any help would be good.

But he's right, we dont run around wearing our flags colors... Personally, daily, i wear jeans and a dress shirt; sleeves rolled & collar loose. Or a t-shirt when i'm working on the car.

but for a party, Pimp-Daddy look is always in, Just dont forget the matching purple Cape w/ lepard fur inside. .

OR; wear Black shoes, slacks, shirt, and hat w/ white suspenders, tie, and hat-band. gotta sport a feather in the hat too... the shoes can be black and white, but not only white. Or you can dress the inverse. NO JACKET!

Just go naked. We dont wear cloths in america.

Girls typically wear a black dress (hence the name Black Dress parties) and guys wear a Tuxedo. Thats your typical formal party.

See now, it all depends on what region of the country you're trying to emulate.

For example, if you're going north-east coast formal, you just need a really nice suit, preferably black or dark gray. (I have no idea what they wear in the south).

If you're going Texas formal, you're gonna wanna starch and iron your best, darkest Wrangler jeans, polish your cowboy boots, starch and press a white shirt, and get a honkin' ass bolo tie to wear with it. Lest we forget the 10 gallon (cowboy) hat.

If you're going Southwest formal, wear the above ensemble, just make sure there's an enormous piece of turquoise embedded in sterling silver on that bolo tie.

If you're going California formal, you're gonna want a light colored, probably something in the tan neighborhood, linen suit, and sandals that anywhere else only a gay man would wear.

Finally, if you're going Pacific Northwest formal, you're gonna want to dig out a pair of cargo shorts from the bottom of the hamper, along with any given tee shirt whether it matches or not, and pair this with your least-dingiest pair of white socks to wear beneath your Birkenstocks. Oh, and don't bother shaving for a few days either. For that matter, brushing your hair is optional as well.

Again, ANY hat will do. It dont have to be 10 gallon, it could be straw or winter, Or just a cap with a beer logo or sports team on it. Hell, A beenie is fine, but guys just don't show their bald spots, and we all have a few. Even if your 15 years old, You've been in some fight, or some wrestling match, or had some accident... Something - somewhere has happened; in witch there is a piece of hair missing from your head.

hell. i never dress formally. if i want to dress 'fancy,' i just put on a nice button up / or nice shirt under my blazer while wearing some nice jeans. not the walmart kinds.
