Coomer's Minor Site Updates Thread - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #60362 23 posts Started by Coomer
I'm currently working on a lot of management-related features, but I'm also working on some user-facing features, and tweaking small things here and there as I go. This thread is to highlight some of these tweaks as I make them. smile.gif

What I did tonight was tweak the forum code and queries so that if a member has a default Celica photo, it's loaded and displayed on the pop-up menu when viewing a post in a topic, like this:

More small features and thread updates coming soon, along with some larger updates as well. smile.gif

Probably...can you link me to a few that don't work?

Thanks for the PM...those users don't have default photos, but have profile photos, which is strange. There's some sort of disconnect somewhere that's causing this. I'll look into it. smile.gif

Cool. Thanks.

I'd still like to see more smilies, 'cause i'm a big kid biggrin.gif

Cool feature! That's very useful for helping to recognise people with "normal" boring S/N's like 97celST or something like that. Those all start to run together but if we have an easily accessed pic like that it'll help.

Manphibian - you don't have a default BTW.

Today so far I've implemented a few miscellaneous small modifications. smile.gif

  • PMs are once again sent when one of your topics is deleted or moved.
  • There's some text clarifying that your title needs to start with "FS: " or "WTB: " when posting in the buying/selling forum.
  • Default Celica photos now show up in PMs as well.
  • Default Celica photos are now automatically setup in the backend upon photo upload or removal, unless you already have a default Celica photo.

Nice work. Can you instead of having a note about FS or WTB.
Have the user selected either FS: or WTB: before the post can be made. Then it will add it in for them. If the member doesn't choose either, then the thread won't post.

Is this possible?

We are still going to have a problem with this, if we can't make it so they can't post with out a proper title.

I will return one day.

That was actually my original intention today, but I realized it's a lot of work, so pushed it back in favor of working on some more important features. smile.gif It will get done at some point though. smile.gif

That should be fixed now. I rolled back an update and it seemed to fix the problem for me on IE. smile.gif

Today I just added a new wallpaper to the home page. smile.gif

How come there are no email alerts for comments posted?

Check your settings; I had that problem and then re-entered my email address and it's worked ever since (pre and post site update)

I don't think there ever have been any. I hard code the insertion of the comment notification PMs, so that would be why emails aren't sent. Were you ever receiving comment notification emails?

New Toyota project coming soon...
I was also. Every time someone posted a comment on my profile, I'd receive a PM telling me who, when, and gave me a link to my own profile to see it.

I can't remember if I did or not. But I just happened to look over at my PMs and it said 1 new, never received an email so I don't even know when I got it.

yea i got a pm when i just got a comment...

Would it be possible to have some sort of an Auto-Notification thingy setup? Like to setup Key-words, and recieve a PM or something whenever someone uses them. Like our Screen names for example.

I recently had a member asking me for help, but i had no idea, it'd be cool if i could key-word my name (in all it's varrious spellings) so that when someone posts asking for my help, i'll know and be able to respond to their thread faster.

Also, i recently had a problem, and needed someone to help me. maybe someone (say Dr. Tweak) would be able to have "electrical problem" in their list of keywords, so that they can help quickly and efficiently.

IDK if it's possible or how much work it'd require, but it'd deff be a cool thing, and help us to help each other better thumbsup.gif

Just an idea.

isn't that what PMs are for?

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
