Topic #60453 20 posts Started by TrdPnoy
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew what the size of the rear caliper bolt is. I broke mine while changing my rear pads.
Thanks
mine did to, and to be honest i didnt get a new one. i just left it out and have not had any problems, that was months ago.
im dreading the day when i get my new pads b/c of those bolts

I was missing one for a while, and then i started to hear a loud clunk under braking. I found the whole caliper was hanging back off the rotor. I took the other bolt out and went to the hardware store and found an identical replacement Grade10 bolt. I think it cost me 1-2 bucks?

Don't cheap out. Go to the hardware store and get it fixed.

edit: the ones that bolt the caliper to the assembly is 9mm diamater with 14mm head, there is a single bolt on the caliper itself and thats 12mm head and 7mm diameter

wow I can't even begin to understand the retardedness behind this decision.

If you don't know the size, just take one of the ones you have off and with you to Home Depot to find a replacement.

Little harsh perhaps! laugh.gif But true, generally speaking if you lose one you will know about it as you should hear some clanking/clinking coming from the wheel area - its there for a very good reason obviously so as said above - don't skimp, get it sorted properly! smile.gif
ANY parts store will have that caliper bolt too. Any hardware store, any parts store, any place that sells nuts and bolts will have it. I couldn't even imagine not replacing that. Wow.

DON'T BE SO HARSH LIKE THE PEOPLE ON HONDA FORUMS.

I don't think its retarded at all, I started changing my pads early in the morning before work and as I was finishing the rear right the bolt busted and the thread was stuck I had to drill it out the next day. I didn't bother taking the bolt out on the other side because I had to go to work. So I created this topic so that maybe I could go online during my break and see the replies then just grab it at work from the parts guys. I would of took the other one off if I had time. But Yah its not good to leave it.

Thanks for the replies.

I think the comments are more out of genuine concern for another member's safety and not intended as insults.

god you people need to grow up and stop expecting the world to be lollipops and sugar canes.

to start off with my comment wasn't even directed towards you OP, so don't get into a bunch.
Plus do not be ignorant and make blanket statements, it makes you look retarded. I bet a bunch of people on Honda forums > you.

Yes leaving a bolt out on a caliper is retarded. why?
if a mechanic did the brakes for you and left out a mounting bolt and you found your caliper flapping around after surviving brake failure while driving down the street....what would you do? Go back call him a retard and probably threaten to sue him.
secondly its retarded because you are putting other people potentially at risk by driving an unsafe car. Remember what you do to/with your car effects other peoples safety. Brakes are serious business don't leave sh!t out.

Its super easy.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
It really is, actually. Fear not, grasshopper. Even a girl can do it. wink.gif
my rear caliper bolt is broke and i am going to attempt to drill it out. what size drill bit should I use for this?
anything smaller than it really
Typically you would drill a smaller hole in the center and use an extraction kit to back it out. It's pretty simple. Don't try to drill it out with a bit of the same diameter. You will not do it properly.

You can get a new caliper bolt and bracket at rock auto. com but the quality is kinda weak. I had a bolt that was stripped cause someone
forced it at an angle. Caliper brackets are around 16 bucks. Make sure to put in the notes please inspect just for the hell of it.
