VVT vs. Vtec - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #6061 2 posts Started by 95ST
ok I posted a question about the difference between VVT in a silver top VS vtec in a Civic SI. I got mixed answers but noone really was able to explain the differences. I found a great article which explains the 2 systems and how they work

Bill Sherwood VVT vs. VTEC

I found this interesting because VVT is nothing to get excited over, infact my friends 70 chevel has this, we installed a MSD ignition on it and it has springs build into the distributor to control the advance in the timing depending on the RPM. VTEC is deffinatly a beter system, but I think that VVT might have more potential to get power gains from because it is more simple.
VVT is for the cams and not ignition timing. That also changes with all cars.

There are talking about advancing or retarding the cam timing @ different engine speeds, which is VVT-i.

VVTL-i compete with VTEC.
