I got me a 1998 GT...now, hopefully i can get some money back from taxes this year...and with that i want to put some mods on my car...one of them mods will be an intake...now my question to everyone is...

what company makes the best intake?

take into consideration price and performance

also another question.....how easy is an intake to install??
is it just pop off airbox...pop on intake? other steps involved??

I have a Weapon-R dragon short ram. I know some people bash it, and it's not cold air, but I love it. It looks good, it's cheap, and (contrary to popular belief) I could feel a big difference. And as far as time goes, I installed it in about twenty minutes. You just take all the stock parts out, and throw in the new intake. It's great.

is that the ram air kit with the cover over the filter for like $85 more? does it work well???

you could always make your own cold air intake. Buy a couple of cheap intakes off of ebay and take the pipes to a shop to get them bent. Most places will do it for next to nothing.

weapon R's aren't bad its just their filter that sux ass

If you have a mandrel, definatley make your own. If not, go with the Dr. Cai. He has a lot more instruments at his school to customise it the way you want.

ive heard nothing but good things about the injen intake, and nothing but good things about dr.cai the only downside with dr. cai is there is no intake for the gt yet hes working on it now, and his will be a cai >>

Like I said, I could feel a big difference. I had to pull out in front of somebody the day after I had it done. I just started laughing when I gave it the gas. It's great. But, If I had to go back and do it again, I wouldn't buy it. I would just buy the dragon filter (that you can set up as a cold air ram) and have somebody at a shop make the pipe and stuff. Any good muffler shop can make a pipe for you, and you can get most of the hookup silicone pieces from autozone or something. As for now though, I am going to order the ram air kit and see what my buddy Bowen and I can do with it.

I doubt anyone will see a "big" jump in performance. Unless you're regularly driving in the 5k rpm range, the best you can say a shortram offers is increased throttle response. After all, the throttle body can only take in so much air, simply removing restriction will only do so much, which is when forced induction comes in. I can't speak for a CAI since I didn't install one, but the premise is the same except the air would be more dense than a short ram's.

People always want to believe they're getting their money's worth, the desire to believe that you gained much more power clouds perception. If I had to go back, I'd probably have just bought a drop in K&N filter rather than this Injen (which was cheap in itself since I got it slightly used). 1st and second -seem- to accelerate more quickly, but I think it's simply because I began to shift further in the rpms. 3-5 feel exactly the same.

I agree with you on this one. Here's an interesting article regarding this. Cold air intakes, such as the Dr. CAI, actually do provide a nice horsepower increase though. >>

--For simplicity, and to not stick out like a sore thumb go with a drop in filter

next question--who offers the best drop in filter?? ive seen TRD drop in filters on e-bay for like $15

I've heard only good things about the K&N filter, and someone told me that a Tom's filter was nice too. >>

I'm getting an injen intake...i've heard nothing but good about it. One quick question i have though...do they make intakes that drop down and come out twords the front for 6gen gt...i think injen calls them "race division".

Do you mean a cold air intake? If so, no, Injen does not make a cold air intake for the sixth generation Celica.
